Role Description This is a full-time, remote Accountant role supporting the financial operations of an independent media organization. The Accountant will manage day-to-day bookkeeping, including recording transactions, maintaining the general ledger, and reconciling bank and payment platform accounts. Responsibilities include handling accounts payable and receivable, preparing invoices, monitoring cash flow, and ensuring timely and accurate payments to vendors and contributors. The role also involves preparing monthly financial reports, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and maintaining compliance with tax and regulatory requirements in collaboration with external advisors where needed. The Accountant will contribute to building scalable financial systems and processes that support transparent, sustainable growth.
Qualifications
* Strong accounting and bookkeeping skills, including general ledger management, account reconciliation, and financial reporting.
* Proficiency with accounting and financial tools (e.g., QuickBooks or similar software, spreadsheets, and cloud-based financial systems).
* Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management for small or growing organizations.
* Knowledge of tax, regulatory, and compliance requirements relevant to media, publishing, or digital businesses.
* Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines with strong attention to detail.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance team members.
* Prior experience in media, technology, startups, or professional services is beneficial.
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
