Abyssinia Bank Partners with Fastpay to Digitize Remittance Flows

Abyssinia Bank has entered into a strategic partnership with Fastpay LLC to utilize Cybersource, a Visa-owned payment technology, for facilitating global digital remittance services. Announced on August 28, 2025, this collaboration enables Ethiopians abroad to send money directly to recipients in Ethiopia using Visa or MasterCard, offering a faster and fee-free alternative that aims to enhance customer convenience.

This initiative is positioned to capture a larger portion of Ethiopia's substantial remittance market, estimated to be over $5 billion annually. By integrating this digital platform, Abyssinia Bank aims to encourage the use of formal transfer channels, aligning with the government's goal of boosting foreign exchange reserves. The move is expected to increase competition and drive further innovation in the digital remittance sector.
