I don't think will be the last time we see Carol Burnett
Better Call Saul S06E10 - "Nippy" - Post-Episode Discussion Thread
Just finished this digital portrait of Thom. Let me know what you think.
I have an IUD - I don’t get my period anymore, but still vaguely feel my cycle - what counts as mensuration when considering whether or not I can partake in aya ceremony?
Dealing with loneliness and my experience as a transracial(?) adoptee
In rainbow opens with 15 steps, then comes bodysnatchers, then nude and then f*cking weird fishes.
Which, for consistency's sake, would mean that the title has absolutely nothing to do with the sprinkler company, yes?
The posters have been a bit more aligned with the plot as opposed to the video and audio clips. Last week was the beaker with the fish.
She’s a gangster queen. She will be back.
Here’s hoping Carol Burnett is secretly deep in the game and comes back for some epic shenanigans in a future episode
It sounds like you’re a very thoughtful person. It also sounds like this center is patriarchal/sexist- there are tons of unnecessary superstitious rules about women and their periods, this place is no exception.
Really, go somewhere that doesn’t view you as a tainted women during your cycle. If respecting their space means “not menstruating” even technically, you’re dealing with sexist spiritual leaders. This means you should be on guard for other legitimized forms of sexism in the group, including abuse, unfortunately.
It also sounds like no matter what anyone says, you may still feel paranoid about breaking the rules in this space. Don’t let your womanhood get you down during your trip...just go to a space where you can be yourself 💗
Unless there is solid research stating it is unhealthy for women to participate in the ceremony for health reasons, then I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Sounds like old sexist traditions to me. I personally wouldn’t attend a ceremony that wouldn’t allow woman to attend on the basis of menstruation.
Thank you for your input and for sharing part of your experience. I have also faced the language expectation you mentioned which is part of the reason why I am quite hesitant to visit my birth country. Would you advise a visit despite this?
The language expectation is different because it’s your own people assuming you are part of their tribe because you look like them vs the racist scenario of a white person assuming you work in the restaurant 😉.
I actually am a firm supporter of going back! There isn’t enough encouragement to return. It can even feel like you’re betraying your adoptive family in some way by taking interest in your roots. The thrill of blending in, being around a whole country full of people who look like you is a blessing for identity processing. The food is a visceral healing experience. And the little things, like clothes that were designed to fit your body type will be amazing. Those things can cause pain though too since it will make you think about your paradox life (what if you never left your birth country?).
I regret waiting so long to come back. I resisted because no one ever really encouraged me to go, including my parents. One of the unique challenges we have as international adoptees is coming to terms with the fact that we not only lost bio family, but we lost our cultural identity as well when we were adopted - and no one really presents it as a loss.
Only you can decide when you’re ready and it’s ok if you’re not there yet. There is usually never a perfect time to travel and it can feel like an impossible trip to take. Do it when you’re ready, but don’t put it off too long 🖤
I appreciate the honesty about both the hardships and benefits of going back. You make a good point about the cultural loss and you have given me a lot to ponder. I appreciate the time you took to read and respond to my original post and follow up question.
You sound like a really thoughtful person! I hope you can integrate into existing communities (Asian/adoptee/specific to your birth country/writing/other) and/or feel confident creating your own. If you feel isolated in your surroundings, you can always move to a place where your desired community thrives 💗feel free to reach out anytime.
Love how this is just turning into an in rainbows vs ok computer debate, as I suspected it would 😂
