Here is a quick interview with Casey Mackisey. Hope you enjoy!!
Casey is Bryant’s top hammer thrower and is projected as one of the NEC’s top returners next year!
Rock. I like it for the diverse sound and history of the genre itself.
Bob Dylan. I am really interested in the protest era in the 60’s and what influences that sound has had on subsequent musicians.
Action Bronson- Easy Rider. Definitely check out Action’s new album he’s a great new artist and I hope to see him in concert soon.
ZOX at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel. While it wasn’t the best venue, they brought the house down with their set list
How has your music preferences changed over the years?
It has diversified greatly both in terms of discovering the music that laid the foundation for modern artists and also searching out new artists and genres.
What type of music do you listen to:
Hip-Hop, Rock. I like to get in the right mindset before I compete and it helps me focus.
Arctic Monkeys- From the Ritz to the Rubble, Chance the Rapper- 14,400 Minutes, Young Thug- Danny Glover. I don’t like to limit myself to a specific genre before I compete and I’ll listen to a diverse playlist before I throw.
Spotify, Youtube, word of mouth, Twitter accounts for favorite artists and online music publications such as Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, or Noisey.
Here is a link to Chance the Rapper’s song 14,400 minutes!
                                                   - Frank Foley
Here is an interview with Josh Bjornberg of the Bryant University Swimming and Diving Team.
What was your pump up playlist like before your championship?
It was mostly rap and EDM music. That is my go to before most of my races and what I like to listen to the most of the time along with country.
Where do you find most of your music?
I love to use 8tracks. I make my own playlists on that website. My playlists usually get around 25,000 views for my good ones. I really like to assemble and organize my playlists for others enjoyment. Here is a like to check my page out http://8tracks.com/breakdance265
I love country along with rap and EDM. I have seen many Dierks Bentley concerts he has to be one of my favorites of all time. I like a lot of rappers like G-Eazy and Logic. I also like a lot of electronic “robot” music as my roomates call it.
                                              -Sam Linder
Here’s an
interview with Brian Sullivan. We hope you enjoy!!
Brian holds
the Bryant University Record in the discus with a throw of 156.3 feet and has
posted throws that rank in the university’s top 5 all time in every other field
event (minus the Javelin)
The sampling techniques in the instrumentation is
interesting and leads me to research more musical genres. Also like the aggressive
lyrics of artists that are similar in age.
One of the pioneers of the Hip Hop genre. Amazing lyrical
ability and stays connected to socially conscience issues.
Had a Beatles kick with my roommate while running errands.
Love this song because there are theories behind the origin and the meaning. It
also very cool to listen to John and Paul trade off in the song’s main verses.
Never been to a concert, but have played in over 10 solo
recitals. I played the piano from when I was three to 15 years old.
What type of music do
you listen to:
I listen to mostly classical music particularly Beethoven
and Mozart. This is relaxing music that also allows me think about things other
than the meet itself.
From the time I walk off the bus I listen to no music. I
have been doing this since I started competing in track and field since I was a
freshman in high school because my coaches did not want us getting distracted.
How has your music preferences
changed since you stopped competing?
Without a doubt. I’ve explored more and more genres and more
musical offerings within the genres that I a history of listening to.
I find new music through my peers. Sharing music has a
social component which brings us together as a suite. I also go online to find
sites that showcase new artists that are receiving claim from critics such as Spotify,
soundcloud, and YouTube.
Here is the link to Brian’s favorite song A Day in the Life – The Beatles!

Enjoy our interview with Bryant swimmer George Sommerville!!
What genre of music do you like to listen to?
I enjoy listening to a variety of genres, but the three I listen to more than others are hip-hop rap, alternative, and rock. Depending on my mood at the time will determine what type of music I listen to. If I am relaxing on the weekends I enjoy alternative, but if I am feeling upbeat and happy then I listen to either rock or hip-hop.
What is your favorite artist / song?
I cannot say there is a specific artist that I like to listen to more than others because every artist has a different sound and their own uniqueness. I usually go through a period of time where I only listen to one or two artist and then I will move on to another. Lately, I have been listening to a lot of Kendrick Lamar, Action Bronson, and Outkast. Each of these artists bring a unique flow to their music which is what I really enjoy about them.
Does your choice of music change between pre-game and postgame?
Depending on the swim meet I will listen to different music beforehand. For example early in the morning before a championship meet I like to listen to softer music to relax me, but afterwards I listen to upbeat, faster music. This helps me get in the zone and fired up for my big races. If it is a normal in season swim meet then I usually have one playlist for the whole day that has a mix of all my music.
Does your playlist remain the same throughout the season or does it change?
No, I usually change my playlist two or three times throughout the season. It also depends what new artist and new music is being released at the time. If a new album drops in the middle of the season I will more than likely play it for the rest of the season if I like it, or I will play it until more new music comes out.
How long before the competition do you stop listening to your music?
I try to listen to my music well before I arrive at the pool so I am able to concentrate. I then like to listen to my music for as long as possible before my race, it keeps my focused and relaxed. I usually bring my iPod up with me to the blocks. This helps me block out the distractions around me because the crowds and all of the noise can be overwhelming at times.
Is the purpose of listening to music more to get focused, pumped-up, or calmed down/relaxed?
I listen to music for all of the reasons listened. People listen to music for a wide variety of reasons, you can’t correlate music with one specific activity. Whatever my mood is at the moment will depend on the music I play; sometimes I want to listen to a specific artist or certain type of music, and sometimes I don’t want to listen to music. That’s what I like about music though it’s all based on your mood you are either feeling it or you are not.
I go to online websites where artist give their music to the public for free such as Datpiff. I also use SoundCloud, YouTube, and Spotify. All great sources for music and you usually can find almost any song. I like how I am able to share the music with my friends as well it makes finding music that much more enjoyable.
We hope you enjoyed the interview from George Sommerville. Here is one of George’s favorite songs called Easy Rider by Action Bronson. Click on the link below to listen we hope you enjoy the song as much as George does!

Here is an interview with Connor Norat. We
hope you enjoy!!
My
favorite artist is Freddie Mercury and Queen. His vocal range is unparalleled
and unique. Their music was created decades ago and is still seen as a staple
in Rock and Roll today. Their music consists of songs that are vastly different
from each other and I think that separates them from artists who sound the same
in every album. Freddie was also an incredible performer. People did not just
go to the concerts for the music, but for the entertaining performance. He was
a true showman and I wish I was able to see him for a live concert.
My favorite
album is the Greatest Hits of Billy Joel. I grew up listening to Billy Joel and
this album because it covered such a wide variety of songs and instruments. The
album has so many chart toppers including Piano Man, Scenes of an Italian
Restaurant, etc. It is the only album where I like every single song on the
track and it is rare that you hear many of them besides the classics.
Favorite
song is Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen. I have nothing else to say. Just listen to
it.
What type of music do you listen to when
traveling with the team?
I actually don’t
listen to music before a game because it distracts me, unlike most people. But
when traveling I listen to all kinds of music. Country, rap, hop-hop, rock,
classics, jazz. It really depends on my mood and the weather. My music choices
are adjusted to seasonality. For example in the summer I listen to country and
in winter I like Christmas songs.
I find
new music on YouTube and from friends. Most of the time I will find out new
songs at parties or pre-games where music is key. Sometimes I hear new music on
the radio, but then it gets overplayed. There is nothing worse than a song that
gets overplayed because it completely ruins it for me. YouTube makes it easy to
find new songs because of their side bar that shows related videos. This allows
me to find similar songs that are closely related to what I enjoy listening to.
We hope you enjoyed the interview from Connor Norat. Here is Connor’s
favorite song called Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen. Click on the link below to
listen we hope you enjoy the song as much as Connor does!

Q & A with Bryant Swimming’s Alexandra Morreale!
Here is an interview with Russell Stevens. We hope you enjoy!!
As of late I have really been into LCD Soundsystem. They have
some pretty clever lyrics and great progression.
Run the Jewels 2, it’s Run the
Jewel’s second album.
Dance Yrself Clean by LCD Soundsystem
What type of music do
you listen to when traveling with the team?
I like to listen to relaxing music to clear my head
before races, so anything in the ballpark of Arcade Fire usually does the
trick.
Where you find new music?
I usually go through Noisey or Pitchfork. They are two
really good music blogs that are updated pretty frequently.
Above is Russell’s favorite song Dance Yrself Clean by LCD Soundsystem. This song gets Russell motivated to compete and has allowed him to be one of the top returning seniors on the cross country team. Russell has Bryant’s 8th all time fastest 5k indoors!
                                                    -Frank Foley
Here is an interview with Blake Fenwick. We
hope you enjoy!!
The band, The Story So Far; stands out
to me as a group that has a catchy sound and very well written lyrics that have
a very powerful message behind them. I’ve found that all their songs are really
meaningful allowing me to listen to every song in the album without having to skip
through any of them. I really enjoy the fact that the band has found a great medium
between singing and a hardcore sound that makes them a gateway drug into
heavier music. Overall, The Story So Far
is one of my favorite bands that I enjoy listening in and outside of athletics.

My favorite album would have to be, Stray From the Path by Anonymous. The
album is not particularly new, but has been an album that I have been listening
to a lot recently. I have really enjoyed the album because of its instrumentals
along with its well-structured lyrics. The lyrics in the album speak to me in
such a way that I feel uplifted and ready to attack any challenge ahead of me.
The main feature that I like from the album is the fact that it is not a
generic sound. This brings a uniqueness to the album allowing them to stand out
to me in a positive manner. The album is very well done and the band is a lot
of fun to see live.
Heavy
Gloom is The Story So
Far’s newest song. It just came out yesterday and I have enjoyed it a lot.
What type
of music do you listen to when traveling with the team?
I listen to some hardcore music on the
ride over to track meets. For me it is something familiar and definitely gets
me pumped-up before a race. I do switch it up and listen to pop or punk music
on the way home to unwind. After being at a meet all day I like to get out of
that headspace.
I find most of
my music on Spotify. They have a feature on each artist’s profile where I am
able to listen to related artists that have a similar sound and fan base. This has
allowed me to expand my music horizon and find artists that I would have never
heard of otherwise. I also look up music on YouTube and once again look at the
related music on the right column.
We hope you enjoyed the interview from Blake Fenwick. Here is a
song by The Story so Far which is one of Blake’s favorite bands that gets
him motivated to compete for be holds the 10k record at Bryant University.
                                                    -Frank Foley
What is your favorite genre of music to get pumped up to?
We love to get amped to rap and hip hop. Since we rugby is such an intense physical sport it really helps us get in the right state of mine for our games. We really like the themes of hip hop especially Eminem’s songs. He is by far our favorite. We also like to listen to country as well.
What is your favorite song to get pumped to before the game?
It has to be Loose Your Self by Eminem. That song is a go to before our rugby matches. It is a classic pump up song. We do also like to listen to a lot of Drake and Chris Brown. They make a lot of our other favorite songs to listen to before a games like Forever by Drake and Forever by Chris Brown.
What is your favorite genre to listen to?
It has to be country. We really like the laid back lackadaisical feel from country. We are huge Luke Bryan fans. We can listen to him anytime and anywhere. We feel like its the perfect mix out of any genre. We occasionally
