The Tapanta (ru:Тапанта), a branch of the Abaza, lived between the Besleney and Kabardian princedoms on the upper Kuban. Abaza people historically speak the Abaza language, a Northwest Caucasian language most closely related to Abkhaz, and more distantly related to the Ubykh and Circassian languages.
The Abkhaz and Abaza are ancient peoples of the Caucasus, speaking the languages of the Abkhaz-Adyghe group. Their history dates back thousands of years, going back to the Bronze Age. These ethnic groups have preserved their unique culture, language and identity despite numerous historical challenges.
The palm symbolizes the Abkhaz-Abaza statehood during the Abazg Kingdom.
