AWOL in HR (Absence Without Official Leave)

AWOL: Absence Without Official Leave

In Thailand, sometimes you get employees who just disappear for few days without any company's approval. It's called AWOL.

Unauthorised absence is when someone does not come to work and gives no reason for their absence or does not contact their employer. Other terms people might use include: 'AWOL' or absent without official leave.

Not turning up for work and not having a good reason for being absent generally constitutes a breach of contract. You are perfectly entitled to dismiss an employee on that basis, having first followed the correct procedure.

When an employee is absent without an approved leave for at three (3) consecutive working days he shall be considered on absence without official leave (AWOL) and shall be separated from the service or dropped from the rolls without prior notice.

Employee will not be entitled to severance pay if his/her employment is terminated for absence without official leave.
