API 5CT
API 5CT is an industry standard covering the technical requirements for casing and tubing used in oil and gas wells. It defines specifications for steel tubular products manufactured for demanding drilling, completion and production environments, with requirements covering material grades, dimensions, mechanical properties, heat treatment, manufacturing processes and inspection. Common API 5CT grades include J55, N80, L80, T95 and P110, each designed to provide specific levels of strength and performance for different well conditions.
API 5CT casing is used to support the wellbore and isolate different geological formations, while tubing provides a controlled flow path for produced oil and gas from the reservoir to the surface. Depending on the application, products must meet specified requirements for outside diameter, wall thickness, length, tensile strength, yield strength, hardness and other mechanical characteristics. Proper heat treatment and manufacturing controls are also important for achieving consistent material performance.
API 5CT products are commonly supplied with inspection and testing documentation to verify compliance with applicable requirements. These specifications help operators, drilling contractors and oilfield suppliers select suitable casing and tubing for various well construction and production applications. With defined grades, dimensions, mechanical requirements and quality controls, API 5CT provides a standardized framework for steel tubular products used throughout the oil and gas industry.
