On May 13-14, 2024, the "Asian Women's Forum" took place in Samarkand, focusing on the theme "A Regional Approach to Women's Economic, Social, and Political Empowerment."

Our country is actively pursuing gender equality, emphasizing equal rights and opportunities for both women and men, and ensuring their equitable participation in societal and governmental affairs.

The Senate Resolution of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, dated May 28, 2021, No. SR-297-IV "On the Approval of the Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030," requires gender analysis of projects financed by the state and local budgets of Uzbekistan. This includes incorporating gender aspects into their planning and implementation and the gradual adoption of "gender-responsive budgeting" in fiscal processes.

In this context, the Ministry of Economy and Finance has forged a collaboration with UN Women.

Within the framework of this cooperation, on May 14 of this year, a meeting was held between Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Kuchkorov and Executive Director of the UN Women structure Sima Sami Bahous.

During the talks, the parties stressed Uzbekistan's commitment to gender equality and noted that great strides have been made within the framework of the country's strategy for gender equality until 2030, including increasing the proportion of women in leadership positions, expanding women's access to educational and entrepreneurial resources.

In turn, Ms. Bahous highly appreciated the role of Uzbekistan in employment and social protection issues, stressing the need to prioritize the economic strengthening of women on the country's agenda.

At the end of the meeting within the framework of the Asian Women's Forum, a memorandum of understanding with UN Women and the Ministry was signed.

Thanks to this memorandum, the following are anticipated:

Utilization of expert consultations to integrate gender principles into the strategy for managing state finances and budgetary legislation, including legislative integration and monitoring.

Provision of opportunities to learn from and exchange best practices in gender-responsive budgeting with other countries.

Support for the application of gender principles in defining the criteria for allocating state and local budget funds.

Planned close cooperation with the Ministry on initiatives aimed at enhancing the accountability of public institutions in aligning national gender equality policies with corresponding budgetary allocations through gender-responsive budgeting.
