A meeting on the introduction of the MRV system in the regions was held


The members of the delegation of Uzbekistan met with the Department of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Ministry of Energy and Sustainable Development, in Tangier, in order to study the experience of implementing the MRV system of Morocco in the regions and sectors.

At the meeting, responsible experts of the Ministry of Energy and Sustainable Development demonstrated a presentation on Morocco’s Regional Greenhouse Gas Inventory System (SRI-GES) and its online platform, regional climate change adaptation and mitigation measures, green economy, green diversity, and the ongoing works to reduce greenhouse gases emissions.

Moreover, the experience of implementing the first regional MRV system in the city of Agadir, Morocco was introduced. Climate conditions, shortcomings and opportunities in each region are thoroughly studied by research institutes and international experts, and regional strategies for combating climate change are developed.

During the meeting, the work carried out in the country on greenhouse gases, air quality indicators, and weather stations that collect instruments for determining weather expectations were introduced. These stations have the ability to work in an online system and are of great importance in monitoring greenhouse gases.

In addition, the parties discussed in detail the important conclusions and preparatory processes regarding the experience of Morocco in hosting the "United Nations Conference of the Parties" (COP).

For information: The Kingdom of Morocco hosted the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP-22) in November 2016 and the 3rd Conference of the Parties to the Mediterranean Countries (MEDCOPClimate-3) in June 2023.

At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to establish cooperation on the implementation of the MRV system in the regions and to implement new pilot projects in the future.
