A detective story

Alexandra Adelsberger

... I had failed! John Miller had been murdered. There was blood everywhere and I felt terrible. I looked around the room. The murderer had already left and he had taken his weapon with him. I was absolutely terrified. If the murderer was still here, I would probably be his next victim.

I stood up carefully and tried to sort my memories. My name was Inspector Myers and I had been hired to protect the millionaire John Müller. I definitely was in a bit of a situation. If I called the police, they would suspect me. All in all, I was the only witness. No, I needed to to prove that I was innocent and the only way to do this was by arresting the murderer.

Slowly I left the room. I knew my plan was dangerous, but it was my only hope. Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw a shadow. I tried to hold my breath and waited for a few seconds, but nothing happened. Apparently it had been a trick of the imagination. Suddenly he was standing in front of me.

He had a knife. "Who are you?", I asked. "Don't you remember your best friend?", he answered and took off his mask. I was shocked. Was it possible that my best friend had betrayed me? Although I felt awful, I took out my gun and shot him. Afterwards I phoned the police, which arrested the murderer. Luckily my friend wasn't hurt badly. I often visit him in jail now.
