Albums

Before Toto was formed, members of the band did session work for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session percussionist Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs' 1975 album Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in 1976 following the collaboration.
The third album of Toto, Turn Back, marked a departure from the more progressive sound of their earlier albums, and was criticised for its absence of hit singles. In 1985, lead singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group and the band held auditions for the new frontman. The band chose guitarist Steve Lukather, and recorded Fahrenheit in 1986.
Toto released Toto XX in 1998 to mark the 20th anniversary of the band. The band dug through old tapes and recordings to create the special record. The album was a hit by fans and the band went on a tour that featured former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro, and Joseph Williams.
In the course of the tour for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun The drummer Leland Sklar left the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released the double-CD set Falling in Between. It included live recordings from the tour as well as an interview with the group.
