How do you skin a rabbit? Skinning a rabbit is one of the skills that you will pick up along your hunt for big game. The rabbit will be soft, small and probably just a bit wounded, which means it's easy to get at. You could use your hands, but most hunters are more comfortable using their guns. It's important to learn how to skin a rabbit before you go on your first rabbit hunting trip. Here are some things that you should know:
A rabbit will hide in all kinds of places, including under rocks, inside burrows and anywhere else you can find them. To find them, start by finding out where the rabbits are living. Do you happen to like hunting on private land, and if so, find out if there are any fenced in areas where they have been habituated to live. That way you won't have to disturb them and take your shot from an area they prefer. Once you've done that, follow the same trail they took as they moved around to the next location.
The Basics Hunting
If you've never done this before, take a break from your hunt and gather some supplies. Get two good brushes with small spikes attached, one for the fur and one for the nails, and take some nail polish with you too. You'll need plenty of brushes, as you will need to remove the extra fur from the rabbit afterwards. Let the rabbit dry off completely, and then use a razor to shave off the rest of the loose fur. It's very important to remove as much excess hair as possible because it will weigh the rabbit down and it will be more difficult to hunt.
Next, remove the ears and other things that are attached to the rabbit. Remember that if you are skinning a rabbit that you must always use a cage so you don't hurt yourself when removing these items. The ears should be removed first, but it doesn't really matter what comes next. Some people like to leave the eyes open, but I don't think it looks very good. After the ears, you'll want to remove the nose and any other parts of the body that are visible.
