Find the battery's hatch and turn it open using a flathead, a coin, or a similar tool. Then, carefully pull out the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook of the key-ring. Make sure that you use rubber gloves to avoid damaging the contacts or the clips.
Place the new battery into the socket once the old one is removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing upwards and that it is seated in all the clips. Then, slide the cover back down and toward the key-ring loop section until it is loose and slides off. Then, take off the cover and reveal the key blade hidden inside. This can be used to unlock your car from the driver's side door in the event that the key fob battery is dead or lost.

Once the hatch is open you can slide the battery into its socket and make sure it is seated correctly with the positive (+) side facing upwards. After the clips are secured into place, replace battery cover and then reassemble the fob.

Note: Some older Volvo models have different types of batteries that is called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 10ths of a millimeter smaller than a CR2032 battery, which means you'll need to be aware of the location of the replacement.
