Upgrade components
As part of the 2.0 update the upgrade system for the armor and weapons in Cyberpunk was redesigned. Upgrade components are scattered throughout Night City. The item you wish to upgrade must also include an upgrade slot. When you select an item to upgrade the game will display an image of what the expected statistics will be following upgrading, along with the necessary component or item needed. If you don't have the level or resource to upgrade an item the button will say "Blocked."
Weapons and armor can be upgraded along with some trinkets and gathering tools. The upgrade slots on each of these items can be filled with different upgrades that give you bonus points or extra effects while the equipment is being used. These upgrades are available through crafting, purchased from a vendor, or looted.
There are two kinds of upgrade components that are universal upgrades and gems. Universal upgrades which are similar to gemstones, can be put in any kind of equipment and provide less of a benefit than other upgrade components. The process of obtaining them is quite simple and they are dropped by enemies or taken across the globe. Gems however, can be obtained by disassembling items or completing specific tasks.
Upgrades can be removed and replaced by new ones that fit in the weapon's slot. However it will destroy any prior upgrades. Except for glyphs, which may be placed into gathering tools, all other upgrades are not able to be salvaged or removed once they are placed in an item. Infusions can be placed into legendary or upgraded equipment. Enhancements can only be recovered by using a high-tier salvaging kit or an upgrade extractor.
Recycled Items
In the two recent world wars, the scarcity of natural resources pushed the world to embrace recycling. Recycling things like aluminum paper, plastic and even paper is a common practice.
