Your key fob is fitted with a transponder which has been programmed specifically for your Volvo. When you insert it into the ignition barrel an antenna reads its code and compares it to the one stored in your vehicle's start inhibitor module. If you lose your keys and you lose it, you must bring it to a dealership to get it replaced and your vehicle reset. This procedure can take up to 10 days and cost a lot of cash. However, there is an option to reduce some of the costs by doing the programming at home. You can find all the necessary details in your owner's manual or on the internet. Take off the logo and non-logo covers and lay your key fob on an uncluttered surface. Find the grey button located on the upper right-hand corner of the fob and push it down. This will unlock the cover and reveal the CR 2032 3V battery.
