Poor Samson! A man called by God to be a deliverer of Israel (before His birth), by an angel of the Lord. Endued with power to defeat the enemies of God, he squandered his life pursuing the desires of his flesh.

The angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her, “It is true that you are barren and have no children; but you will conceive and give birth to a son. Now please be careful not to drink wine or strong drink, and not to eat anything unclean. For behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son. And no razor shall come over his head, because the boy will be a Nazarite to God from the womb, and he will begin the deliverance of Israel from the hand of the Philistines. - Judges 13:3-5

But, isn't that just like us? We are called of God to bring deliverance to those held captive in sin. We are filled with His Spirit to heal the sick, cast out devils and raise the dead. Yet, we lose sight of our high calling and crave the temporal things of this world that can never satisfy.

In His great wisdom, our gracious Heavenly Father has given us many stories or examples in the Old Testament. We are warned not to follow in their ways to our own peril.

Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.- 1 Cor. 10:6
These things happened to them as a warning to us. All this was written in the Scriptures to teach us who live in these last days. - 1 Cor. 10;11 (cev)

You know the story. Or, unless you are like I was - clueless to the teachings and stories of the Bible because you were raised without it.

This is so sad, because the Bible has so many wonderful stories and proverbs to help teach us how to live. Stories that every child should know. Stories can have such an impact on ones life as to what is right and what is wrong. Was it not "Uncle Tom's Cabin" that showed a nation the horrors of slavery, and gave them a conscience? A story that enabled a nation full of slave holders, to let them go free.

Stories and art can have such a wonderful impact on the souls of man. May our Father raise up creative writers and artists in this day. The great Creator of all things has blessed us with so much in nature that show He is the Master Artist.

This art work below is better than ten thousand words than I could ever tell.

It tells of a man named Samson - a man endowed by God with supernatural powers to defeat the enemies of the Jews. But, he was seduced by a pagan woman and forfeited his power and destiny as a Judge and deliverer.

Samson and Delilah

We, too (that are called by His name), have a destiny and anointing to set the captives free - to bring deliverance to those trapped in the darkness of sin. We have a commission to spread the Gospel of the Kingdom to all the world.

May our Father help us to not be ensnared by the temporal lusts of this world and the deceitfulness of riches. May we run the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus. Amen.
