When Chyna passed away in April of 2016, the WWE and its hoard of ravenous fans, lost a legend. Chyna was instrumental in the development of the "Diva." Before the "Diva" became an everyday occurrence, females played minimal roles in the league's storylines. They were simply, the wife or lover of a wrestler, or a trash talking MC.
Now the "Diva," rules most of the WWE's airwaves. These women are not only sexy kitty cats, casting men and women's fantasies, but fit, brutal and sassy wrestlers who body slam and throw down punches. All this would be impossible without Chyna. When she arrived in the earlier parts of the 90s, when the promotion was known as the WWF, people and fans didn't know what to do. She was a mix between sexy and beastly. A ripped woman with a mean streak and confidence to go with her seductive physique.
What's most amazing about Chyna is her longevity. Not only was she and will she forever be the trailblazer who opened the door to women in the world of entertainment wrestling, but a cog, a mainstay, someone who opened the door and remained at the top of her game, a Queen.
Because of her paradigm of beauty it's difficult to stamp whether or not she truly was a sex icon. I argue yes, and for more than simply the way she looked. She melded wrestling with breasts and barely clad women. She was THE WOMAN who bridged that gap and did it while maintaining her toughness, and femininity.

The champion. Chyna won many of those belts. Her record stood for most of the "Divas" early years. After winning numerous titles, she backed off into more of a spokeswoman role, but never forgot her roots as the league's first major female wrestler. Fans adored her. They couldn't stand to watch a major WWE event without her, mainly because of her off-beat personality and her bravado. Yes, a woman that hot had a real bravado, a word commonly used when describing men.
As you can see, she had the goods to swoon men with her good looks. Doesn't she look an awful lot like Wonder Woman in this photo? Spot on. And I couldn't think of a better character to carry the name of Chyna forward.
Bar none, my favorite picture of Chyna. She's cute and very feminine here. The blonde wisps, and incredible bosom; pink lips, white teeth for days. Her sensitive pose next to the kind of men she liked, made her feel girly.
This photo is also very sad. Chyna liked the bad boys, the kind of men who chased wild parties and a lifestyle not conducive to living a long, ample, fruitful life. I sometimes wonder if it was her outward hatred for the men of the WWE world, men she often called all about business, insensitive and unkind, that pushed her this more fringe route, a route that may have ultimately killed her. Chyna's relationship with Sean Waltman didn't end well, but it should be said that at her funeral, Waltman was one of the few wrestlers to attend and proclaimed he still had feelings for Joanie Laurer.
Some said that Chyna wasn't hot because of her outrageously sculpted physique. I think that's crazy, and also awfully sexist. A woman has every right to get fit, much like men desire, and still be fully 100% woman, still be sexy. This photo couldn't argue my point any better. Her body is heroic, a mix between super hero and teen fantasy, the kind of woman who'd demand a real man.
And maybe that's the biggest issue most men have with women who inhibit their femininity AND a body that isn't classically skinny and slight. Chyna never cared. She did what she did and did it well.
What's amazing about Chyna's body, is the way she possessed all these attributes at once. Slim waist, contoured legs, buff back, ample chest, and a glare like a gladiator.
This photo was taken in the early 2000s. At the end of the day, Chyna was still a lady, a sexy one. By the time the year 2000 rolled around, Chyna had taken on a more feminine look and as a result, the WWE began pushing her as more of a sex symbol and less as the amazon she had been referred to. She got Playboy offers, posed for the magazine and the narrative on WWE programming was a lot different than it had been previously. Here we have Chyna sporting the American flag in the best way possible. Chyna exemplifies her muscular physique here, yet she retains a lot of femininity. Many women in wrestling say they looked up to Chyna for the doors she kicked down. This was one of them.
She is such a doll in this photo, showing off the goods and maintaining her tough exterior. I can't get enough of photos like this. It's sweet to see Chyna inhabiting her superhero role as a game changer in WWE's illustrious history and doing so sexily.
As you can see behind her, this was the MTV Video Music Awards, where she constantly was included to give out an award or two. Why? Because Chyna was a rock star in her own right. She hung with the likes of Bon Jovi and Slip Knot, always finding her moment for a marketable photo. This image kind of makes you think that Chyna really could have played an amazing Wonder Woman if she had some acting chops.
Isn't it nice seeing Chyna in a normal outfit? It proves yet again just how feminine and girly she could be, and WAS, when allowing herself to enjoy life outside the bright lights of fame.
Chyna was just a character. A mean woman with an ability to headlock a buff guy and submit him to her will. She was the envy of many ladies, as she had the blend between sexy and empowered female, down pat. But she wasn't real. The real Chyna was blessed with a beautiful one-of-a-kind smile and gorgeous cheek bones. She wanted to be accessorized, hence the oversize necklace. She wanted and was, beautiful.
She was known for that black leather bra and underwear. Beneath the underwear she exhibited great legs. Above the underwear, Chyna had a stomach most men would want. She sculpted a great set of twins, and had shoulders that balled like sacks of concrete. But damn, she really was able to own her look. The woman we see in a dream about heroes and villains: submits a man, then rocks his world.
If you wanted to see a photo that caught Chyna candidly in one of her WWE moments, this photo does that justice. Like we said, by this point Chyna was really starting to single herself out as an individual star and the WWE acted on it by pushing her.
Chyna was never shy with her body. In fact, she'd later go on to star in numerous adult movies, post-WWE. It was a move she said gave her back her femininity and healed her wound as a woman often confused with masculinity. But as you can see from this photo, before her retirement and sex-on-tape escapades, Chyna tried hard to re-brand herself. She did numerous cover mags and poses in Playboy, some of the best selling issues in Playboy's historic legacy. Here, she posed like the goddess she was. Isn't it interesting? Some makeup, hair wet, red matching bra and underwear, and suddenly she's the sexiest woman of all our dreams.
Chyna yet again proves that we can't judge a book by its cover. Beneath us all, are many layers. Chyna exhibited many of these layers. And often times, tried desperately to have us turn our gaze from the ring to her other attributes.
You show up to a party and there stands a stunningly beautiful vixen of a woman with lovely lips, white teeth and blue eyes. You move your feet slowly toward her to maybe get a glance or strike a conversation with. But as you near, you notice her prime biceps, like grade A biceps. Arms so strong the girl could break your neck between those puppies. When Chyna was in her glory days, nobody was more fit. Lines all around. Ripples and veins. Slopes and valleys in places we all believed flat.
Chyna worked hard her entire adult life to get the look she did. High school pictures of her reveal a very different young lady, but as soon as Chyna hit the weight room, she was hooked. Eventually she really found herself as a woman and found amazing balance.
It was this photo that officially put Chyna on the map as a babe. Before this she boasted an unflattering haircut that made her chin look a little too chiseled. Yet, here, in this photo, she is dolled up - the marketable face alongside Triple H.
This photo is mega important. It branded WWE going forward in the Attitude Era, a promotion moving away from the old fashioned Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan era, and re-branded their main gal as a more sexy, seductive Diva, with a glorious rack. This move is important. It was WWE that'd give Divas more of a real opportunity. Platforming the legendary Chyna as more of a sex icon, acted as the litmus for females looking to go into the sport.
This photo was taken during a time when Xena Warrior Princess was a huge show. Because of its success, WWE stuck their raven black-haired heroin, in a similar outfit. The play on her look was important. Like the picture before this, it pointed to a look WWE was going for: sex appeal alongside fit, bad ass women-power.
The WWE had majored in the old fashioned approach to the sport. They put a bunch of steroidal men on stage and told them to take their shirts off and body slam their tanned torsos. In the Attitude Era, they did the opposite. Their motto: skimpy wear showing off the goods (notice her increased bust size), smooth skin, muscular, and a face worth fainting for.
Chyna still has a look of intensity in this photo but she also seems to have a look of appreciation in her eyes. It seems she's really taking in the moment of what is happening and that is that the WWE crowd has truly embraced her as a real star and she has truly made it in the world of wrestling. She obviously looks a lot more feminine in this photo than she did earlier in her career. Whatever someone plans to do with their body is their business and Chyna shouldn't receive judgment because she felt she had to make a few adjustments to her body to have a happier life. Chyna was as popular with the crowd as any man was in the Attitude Era, which is amazing.
Oh my God, is that even the same woman we saw bodyslamming men on a weekly basis? Why yes it is. Like we've mentioned before in the article, Chyna was pushed to a whole new level once she had surgery done on her jaw and she got surgery to enhance her breasts. In fact, the implants she got were even named after her by plastic surgeons. They cost her a total of $6,000 but needless to say it was well worth the investment. The WWE moved her away from stables like DX and The Corporation and had her begin challenging for titles and eventually paired her up with Eddie Guerrero. They began referring to her as Mamacita and the crowd really did get behind it.
Lets wind down this this tribute to WWE's leading lady with some feel good entries for our last two. That cleavage is something to truly behold. But there's more here than you might first think. Anyone who understands working out, especially a man, knows that when you start to do chest exercises, one of the first parts to develop is the space between pectorals. It broadens, becomes tighter and starts ripple a bit the way a calve would when walking up or down a steep staircase. This image is perfect to include in this article. It's back to that confusing element with Chyna. The one where she makes some men think "too masculine," and others, "sexy." Because in this photo her chest is a blend between buff dude's pectorals and fine lady's cleavage. Her leather one-piece allots for an ample view of her deliciously tanned thighs, thighs buffer and bigger than most men. Her face is beautiful as always. And it's just so damn sad she's gone.
Here was Chyna shortly before she passed. She looks happy, content, her one hand raised with a peace sign while the other tatted one lopes to her right. It's nice to see her body, still fit I'm sure, less contoured and feminine. She looks like an everyday woman all of us at some point have either befriended, dated or married.
One of her less talked about beauty attributes, were her strikingly blue eyes. The dark hair was a perfect contrast to make them both really pop, and that's what I love about this photo. It's in her eyes, the former body slamming woman-god, tender. It's crazy to believe that it's already been a year since Chyna has passed and hopefully, WWE does the right thing and puts her in the Hall of Fame.

The WWE star became known for her x-rated movies after her days in the ring were finished
Joanie 'Chyna' Laurer embarked on a fully-fledged porn career after her days in the ring were over.
The wrestler, who's sadly passed away after a possible overdose aged 45 , had her final match with WWE in May 2001.
Afterwards she took her career in a more x-rated direction - making homemade sex tapes and becoming an adult movie star.
The grappler first got a taste of life baring her body when she posed for Playboy in November 2000.
Chyna's naked pictorial was an instant success and to this day is still one of the magazine's best-selling issues.
The athlete would once again strip off for the camera when she graced the publication's cover again in 2002.
Three years later Chyna and her then-boyfriend Sean Waltman - known as X-Pac in WWE - created a sex tape during a trip to China.
Upon its release the raunchy footage was distributed under the name 1 Night in China - a play on Paris Hilton's sex tape.
While Chyna agreed with the tape being released, she would always claim that the deal actually went ahead without her signing off on it.
However ex-boyfriend Sean denies these accusations and insists she earned $100,000 from the sales.
A sequel - titled Another Night in China - was released in 2009.
In 2011, Chyna made her professional porn debut after signing a deal with Vivid Video.
At the time she told Wrestling News Live's Fall Out Show: "I am totally psyched and I'll tell you why. I haven’t felt like this since I was on top of my wrestling days, right before my departure.
"I had just done my book and I did Playboy and it was the total high of my life. I loved every day and I woke up every day to do all that. It was tremendous."
She added: "I had been doing little movies here and there and a couple of reality shows but this, when this opportunity came up, I was like 'yeah', I didn't have to think twice about it.
"I was insecure for about two minutes and then I thought, 'why on earth would you not do this?'"
Chyna's first flick - titled Backdoor to Chyna - caused controversy as it parodied her wrestling career.
The movie saw her engaging in sexual acts with actors dressed liked WWE boss Vince McMahon and 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin.
Prior to her death Chyna began campaigning to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame .
However ex-boyfriend Triple H argued it was unlikely she'd be given the honour because of her history.
He said during a WWE podcast that he worried what young children would find if they searched for her online to see who she was.
He added: "I'm not criticising anybody, I'm not criticising lifestyle choices, everyone has their reasons.
