Drugs are dangerous to health and the environment as a whole. Just like a rotten fruit damages others that are placed alongside. Similarly, a drug addict can cause harm to others that sit and wander around him. The control of a drug is important and authorities are trying to implement different ways to control drug abuse. But many ideas are getting dumped because of poor results. However, there is one particular way that has helped many people recover from drug addiction and drug-related problems. And that solution is a drug test.

EtG and The Basics of Drug Test

EtG stands for Ethyl Glucuronide which develops in the body due to excessive exposure to ethanol. Ethanol gets into the body through increased consumption of alcohol. Many regions of the world especially the United Kingdom and parts of the United States have loads of pubs and bars to accommodate drinkers. People indulge in drug consumption activities that prove to be fatal. And this is where drug testing comes in.

EtG drug tests are primarily based on conducting tests on a urine sample. These tests are ideal for identifying alcohol presence in the patient’s body which helps in the curing of after-effects. The basics of drug tests are simple. All drug tests require a urine sample to conduct the sample on. A special kit is utilized to perform these tests. With these tests, you can screen for loads of elements and then begin with the rehab process.

EtG tests are also known as alcohol drug tests. Apart from urine, these drug tests can be conducted on hair, blood, and nails. But urine tests are preferred the most. This is because elements flow slower through urine than any other substance. And this gives ample time for elements to be detected easily.

Where Your Alcohol Comes From?

Alcohol exposure is common these days. People indulge in various activities that enable them to consume alcohol and drugs with ease. And this is where drug tests are important. The alcohol EtG test primarily screens for alcohol presence. However, apart from alcohol’s direct consumption, there are several sources where the alcohol might be coming in.

  • Cleaning products
  • Cosmetics
  • Aftershaves
  • Hand sanitizers
  • Hair sprays
  • Food prepared with alcohol flavor
  • Antiperspirant

How Urine Test Are Conducted?

All drug tests including the EtG tests are conducted through a urine sample obtained from the patient’s body. A dedicated test cup is used to store the urine sample however you can use a disposable cup too. Alcohol test strips are used in this case to screen for alcohol elements. Test strips are dedicated strips made specifically for specific elements. When in contact with the urine sample, these strips get wet and present the required results.

However, obtaining the urine sample is not that easy. For accurate results, your test needs to be spot on. And thus for this, the patient needs to be ensured what protocols need to be followed. It is the top priority that the patient does not consume thin liquid products such as water and beverages in large quantities. Consuming these items would disrupt the natural flow of urine and might present inaccurate results.

EtG Test Detection Time Frame

The detection of the screened elements is not that simple too. For example, when the product is consumed, there is a certain time frame within which your test would present the detected element. When conducting EtG tests, the alcohol can be tested with ease even if it is consumed around five days ago.

EtG Alcohol Test Cost

The cost for conducting EtG tests vary and there are many reasons for it. The primary reason for this price difference is that a number of laboratories offer these tests and thus they differ in charges. Moreover, if you require only element detection you would be charged a different fee. Similarly, if you need to proceed further than detection, the price would go up. But here is a general idea of how much an EtG alcohol test costs:

  • EtG tests can be as expensive as $70
  • EtG tests can be as cheap as $10
  • Screening or element detection would cost around $20
  • Tests conducted at home would cost around $10 to $15

Interpreting EtG Test Results

·        High Positive

A high positive result indicates that the patient has consumed a high amount of alcohol on the day of testing or the day before. Or that he has consumed a light amount of alcohol on the test day.

·        Low Positive

A low positive result indicates that the patient has consumed a high amount of alcohol in the previous one to three days. Or that he has consumed a light amount of alcohol in the past 24 hours

·        Very Low Positive

A very low positive result indicates that the patient has consumed a high amount of alcohol in the previous one to three days. Or that he has consumed a light amount of alcohol in the last 12 to 36 hours.
