A Course in Miracles

The teachings of A Course in Miracles have touched the lives of millions of people worldwide. This powerful documentary introduces the history and inspiration of this mind training course and demonstrates how it can help us to transform our world.

The first part of the film explores the process by which the Course was conceived and written by Helen Schucman, a Columbia University psychologist. She received the dictation for the book through a process she called inner dictation and which she identified as coming from Jesus. The scribe, assisted by her colleague and moral supporter William Thetford, spent seven years writing the Text and Workbook of A Course in Miracles (also known as ACIM). It was published in 1976 and has since become one of the world’s most widely read books.

A Course in Miracles teaches that there are no accidents in the universe and that everything happens for a purpose. It focuses on learning to see the divine in all things and reveals that love is a natural inheritance that cannot have an opposite. The film also explains that forgiveness is the key to transforming our world.

The second part of the film features interviews with some of the most influential teachers of A Course in Miracles who share their experiences and insights on a variety of subjects including: love, death, forgiveness, money, murder, sex and victimization. The interview with mystic David Hoffmeister is particularly moving and shows how the non-dual principles of the Course can be applied to any situation.

While the documentary does not promote any particular interpretation of the Course, it is intended to inspire its viewers to investigate it further. In this way it can help them discover for themselves the power of its message.

The documentary was re-edited and updated for this Special Edition and includes new interviews with Kenneth Wapnick, Gary Renard and Nouk Sanchez. It is narrated by AVAIYA Media Co-Founder, Ashley "Ande" Anderson who shares her own personal journey of applying principals from The Course to understand deep issues like how the ego uses special relationships. This is a must see for anyone who has ever been interested in understanding the power of spirituality, forgiveness and a shift to a different perspective on life. The DVD is available for purchase on the AVAIYA website.

Take Me Home

The power of family to heal is a key theme in Take Me Home, a heart-wrenching film that premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Liz Sargent, who directed the short in collaboration with her sister Anna (who also stars), wrote and starred in the movie, which centers on a cognitively disabled woman reuniting with her estranged sister Emily after their mother dies.

Sargent takes an immersive approach to her storytelling, allowing the viewer to enter the world of her characters through a variety of visual motifs. Whether it’s the low-angle shot of an ant gathering food for its nest, the static close-up of a fan’s rotating blades, or the frequent shots of urban construction sites, Sargent and her cinematographer Minos Papas give the film an aesthetic grain that adds to its documentary-esque sensibility.

Unlike the overly-obnoxious documentaries that dominate the current landscape, Take Me Home is a sincere and thoughtful piece that reveals its characters’ vulnerabilities without sacrificing their dignity. The movie is also a testament to the strength of the human spirit, as the characters struggle to break free from the chains of their egoic self-interest and come to realize that they are not alone.

While this movie does suffer from some cliches in the road-movie department and giant lapses of logic, Sargent’s foresight allows her to unveil their dynamics with tact and compassion. This is especially true of the scene where Anna and Emily face each other’s anxieties about their upcoming trip to New York.

The movie’s spirituality is rooted in the teachings of A Course in Miracles, and it offers an intimate glimpse into the spiritual journey of a family undergoing an emotional awakening. Take Me Home is a powerful story that will touch your soul and encourage you to believe in the healing power of love.
