A Brief History History Of Robot Vac
Top Rated Robot Vacuums
A robot vacuum can keep your floors clean enough to cut down on the frequency of manual hoovering. Choose one that has an easy navigation, can sweep corners and stairs and has a huge dust bin that needs emptying only every few times.
You can also find models that can mop and charge themselves, a feature that may be beneficial for those with children or pets. The top performers in our tests also offer decent obstacle-avoiding capabilities.

1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO are both identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying features. The i3+ is a great alternative for those who want a an automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but want to manually empty the dust bin when it is full.
Both robots are proficient at picking up surface dirt on hard floors and carpets and are able to move around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart maps of your home that aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean up efficiently. The i3+ does not have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or any other top-rated robots that we tested. It could be stuck on power cords and socks and have trouble moving between different surfaces, like rug and hardwood.
iRobot suggests that you clear areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, including putting away any toys or clutter it may come across. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filter clean to prevent them from getting blocked. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is empty it will return to its docking station and automatically emptying its debris into the station's external dustbin and continues cleaning the area where it began. The battery's lifespan is around an hour-and-a-half of continuous usage. It takes about three hours to fully charge.
2. Roomba by iRobot
The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the most recent features. It's self-charging and self-navigating, but the most important feature is its self-emptying bin. This will eliminate the need for routine maintenance.
The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your robot through the app or voice.
In self cleaning vacuum , the i7+ was more agile and faster than our runner-up, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surfaces kinds, including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy it self-empties its dust bin, which eliminates a major source of maintenance and lowers recurring costs.
We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to begin or stop cleaning sessions and also to move around the room and even vacuum a specific area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. When connected, we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
In a world full of vacuums with cords that are like minivans and buses, this small Dyson model feels like a sports car. It is powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, yet it is also small enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.
The V10 is powered by a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy that can provide power that is not fading for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system removes allergens, and then releases cleaner air back into your home. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives stiff nylon bristles deep into carpet to collect large crumbs and fine dust. It has three suction modes to suit the task at hand. It is able to swiftly change from floor vacuum to handheld vacuum, and vice versa.
This model has a dock that can charge the Dyson to 100% in 3.5 hours. It also provides easy access to 2 attachments as well as an Wand. This is a significant improvement over earlier Dysons, that require a long charge and are a pain to store.
The main issue with the V10 is its limited run time. As CR's tests show, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is a typical and not a remarkable run time for the battery-powered cordless vacuum. This is enough time to sweep the typical home however, it's not enough time to reach every area. (A second pass usually works). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is significantly better for carpet floors with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have lots of money to spend on a robot. It's capable of sucking up a variety of kinds of debris in our tests, and often passes over the same areas many times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front allows it to reach the corners and the edges of walls.
Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the mapping capabilities of more sophisticated models such as our top picks such as the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. Because of this, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it often will run out of battery before making it back to its original location.
The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694, as it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower costs for recurring expenses, has more advanced automation abilities and can better navigate its own. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges quicker.
The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries strips and can be controlled using the voice assistant on your smartphone. It is also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and is more effective on low-pile and bare floors.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a name that is found on all kinds of electronic gadgets for your home, so it comes as no surprise that they're one of the most popular robotic vacuum and mop makers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is packed with cutting-edge onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.
The app provides a range of options for customizing your robotic cleaner. These include mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior customizations, docking frequency settings and many more. It's easy to understand and user-friendly, as is the case with other Samsung devices.
In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and cleaned up 86% of dog hair (on carpet). However, it did not do particularly well at avoiding larger objects, like cords and socks, which was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models that we tested, and this could be a deterrent for certain shoppers.
The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that is accessible via the app, and you can also set up a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature lets you monitor your pets or children when you're away from home. The dustbin and filter can be cleaned to make cleanup quick and easy. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with a self-emptying clean station, which helps keep the robot's bin clear and optimizes suction power.
6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum
Contrary to other robotic vacuums that are specifically designed for carpets and hard floors, Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard floors. The robots come with an extra-wide cleaning path, and dust bins that are 2X bigger than the competitors. This lets them keep the area clean for longer. Plus, they include two side sweepers that clean around edges and corners. The POWERSERIES Extreme model also comes with AutoSense technology, which detects whether it's picking up dirt or debris on the surface and automatically adjusts the power level. It also includes a smart application that lets you see the virtual map and control the functions and schedules. Additionally, you can track the vacuum's battery status and return it to its dock for charging by pressing the button. The app lets you customize the LED lights on the top of the vacuum to discern where it is focusing or if it has gotten stuck.
The app makes it possible to steer the robot manually when needed. My living room rug, for instance is darkly colored which could cause a problem for other robots. The HRV 425BL, however was able to continue to move across the border without registering the edge. The ability to program a weekly cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving convenience.
