Suspended sentence: Scarlet Drury, 19, committed sexual offences against three underage children
A teenage girl who had sex with a young boy in a car on a beach and engaged in sex acts with underage girls - before claiming 'age is just a number' - has been spared jail.
Scarlet Drury, 19, of Skelton-in-Cleveland, North Yorkshire, committed sex offences against three underage children when she was 17 and 18.
She had sex with a teenage boy on Redcar beach after drinking alcohol and was repeatedly seen kissing, cuddling and taking part in sexual activity with the two teenage girls.
Drury admitted five charges of sexual activity with a child and one of taking a child without lawful authority – and received a one-year prison sentence suspended for two years.
Teesside Crown Court heard that she bragged about the activity – replying after she was told how old the girls were that ‘age doesn't matter’, ‘age is just a number’ and ‘yeah, it's fine’.
Drury defied child abduction notices banning her from communicating with the girls. When challenged, she said: ‘I know it's wrong and the police are taking me to court. I'm probably going to jail for it. I'll still do it when I get out.’
The court was told how one of the girls was said to be nervous and paranoid, blamed herself for what happened, struggled emotionally to accept it and isolated herself from her family.
Concerns had been raised about reports of sexual activity at Drury's flat when it was alleged children went to the property in school uniforms and there was alcohol and cannabis there.
Covering her face: Drury admitted five charges of sexual activity with a child and one of taking a child without lawful authority – and received a one-year prison sentence suspended for two years
Jo Kidd, defending, said Drury was a young, vulnerable woman who had battled hard in the last 18 months with drugs and alcohol. She said Drury was very sorry and would not offend again.
Judge Tony Briggs told her: ‘You've had a very tragic past for which you are in no way responsible.
‘You lived with your mother who was ill and then lived with your father but he was, unhappily, addicted to drugs and alcohol and introduced you to these substances. You relied on these substances from your very early teens.
'You were in a very powerless state indeed. All this happened a considerable time ago, two years since the last offence.’
The judge gave Drury a one-year custodial sentence suspended for two years with a year's supervision and a five-year sexual harm prevention order.

A 17-year-old Georgia boy has been charged with a felony for allegedly secretly recording a video of two other teen students in the middle of sex in a school bathroom last week, PEOPLE confirms.
Kyle Steven Bahner faces a count of eavesdropping-surveillance for allegedly filming a male and female student — 16 and 15, respectively — while the latter two were engaged in a consensual sex act in a closed boy's bathroom stall at their Atlanta-area high school on May 2, according to an arrest warrant obtained by PEOPLE.
Bahner allegedly reached over the bathroom stall and began to record the pair from above, the warrant states. He then shared the video with his friends and soon it spread throughout the school via social media and platforms, authorities claim.
Police say the video was recorded without the pair's knowledge and was reported the following day by an assistant principal at Harrison High in Kennesaw. All three teens are students there.

"I took a video of a guy and a girl in a stall because I don't see how they should let that happen and I was showing it to my friends," Bahner allegedly told school administrators during their investigation, the warrant states.
He was arrested on Thursday after the school's assistant principal reported the video to school district police. He was bailed out about an hour after his arrest, records show.
Under state law, Bahner is considered an adult for the purposes of criminal prosecution because he is at least 17 years old.
"This incident has been thoroughly investigated by school administrators and school district police. In addition to the criminal charge, appropriate action has been taken in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct," the school district said in a statement to PEOPLE.
A district spokesman said he was unable to answer further questions.
It is unclear whether Bahner has an attorney who could comment on his behalf or if he has pleaded to his charge. He could not be reached directly on Wednesday.

Both “sex” and “gender” are related to being a boy or a girl. “Sex” is about a person’s body parts and how their body grows and develops. A person’s sex is due to a mix of genes and hormones. You can think about genes as an instruction code and hormones as chemical messages.
In terms of genes, most people have 46 chromosomes. (Chromosomes are large groups of genes.) Two of the chromosomes, the X and the Y, are called sex chromosomes. Most boys have one X and one Y chromosome. Most girls have two X chromosomes. However, some boys and girls may have different chromosome patterns. For example, some girls have one X and one Y chromosome. Changes in some genes may explain why some people’s bodies develop differently.
Hormones are chemical messages that a person’s body makes. They tell the body how to grow and develop. Sex hormones make a person’s body parts develop as a boy or a girl. Sex hormones are made by glands inside the body called gonads. There are two types of gonads: testes and ovaries. Most boys have testes and most girls have ovaries. Testes make hormones called androgens. Testosterone is one type of androgen. Ovaries make estrogen, and some testosterone. In addition, testes make sperm and ovaries make eggs.
In terms of body parts, people have reproductive parts inside and outside their bodies. Gonads are one of the parts inside the body. Also inside the body, most girls have a vagina, a cervix and a uterus. The parts outside the body are called genitals. Most boys have a penis and a scrotum. Most girls have a clitoris, labia and a hole for the vagina. Some children have a mix of male and female reproductive parts, like testes and a vagina, or genitals that are not clearly male or female. This is called a difference or disorder of sex development. Some people may use different words, such as intersex.
Before birth and at puberty, hormones make the body parts grow and change. The growth and change depend on several things. They depend on what hormones the body makes, how much it makes, and whether the body responds to the hormones. In other words, a person’s body has to make enough hormones and be able to respond to the hormones, to grow and develop.
Before birth, testosterone makes the body develop as a boy. The body develops a penis and a scrotum. If a person’s body does not make or respond to testosterone, their body develops as a girl. They develop a clitoris, labia and a vagina.
At puberty, people make larger amounts of testosterone and estrogen. These cause more changes in their bodies. Testosterone makes both men and women grow hair in their armpits and groins. (Hair in the groin is called pubic hair.) Testosterone also makes men have stronger muscles, deeper voice, and facial hair. Estrogen makes women have breasts and wider hips.
A person’s “sex” is not the same as their “gender.” “Gender” is about a person’s sense of self, and their inner feeling of being a boy / man or girl / woman. (Some people believe that there are more than two genders. Some people also experience their gender as fluid.) When babies are born, they are usually assigned a sex based on how their genitals look. For many people, their gender identity is the same as the sex assigned at birth. However, for some people, their gender identity does not match their assigned sex.
