Netflix's adaptation of Jenny Han's To All the Boys I've Loved Before may be over, but these teen rom-coms are also worth watching.

Netflix's adaptation of Jenny Han's To All the Boys I've Loved Before has officially concluded with Always and Forever, which was released to the platform two days before Valentine's Day. Protagonist Lara Jean (Lana Condor) is obsessed with romance and romantic comedies, and she and Peter (Noah Centineo) watch multiple during their date nights throughout the TATBILB movies.
Lara Jean's picks include classic -- if problematic -- teen rom-coms like Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink and Say Anything. These are great picks that fans should check out if they're feeling a void after watching Always and Forever. There are also more recent romantic comedies that share similar vibes with To All the Boys, including the eight listed below.
10 Things I Hate About You has aged surprisingly well since its theatrical release in 1999. It's a '90s high school version of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, and stars Julia Stiles as Kat and the late Heath Ledger as Patrick. Kat's younger sister, Bianca (Larisa Oleynik), can't date unless Kat does, but Kat has no interest in the high school dating scene. The new kid in school, Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), wants to take Bianca out -- so he hires Patrick to seduce Kat, failing to realize that Bianca is more interested in dating the most popular guy in school than going sailing with Cameron.
Currently available to stream on Disney+, 10 Things is a late '90s classic with a solid cast, a phenomenal soundtrack and some great character moments, as well as aww-worthy romances.
In addition to the To All the Boys trilogy, Noah Centineo is also in a handful of other Netflix originals. Of these titles, The Perfect Date is easily the best. To earn money for college, Brooks (Centineo) launches an app where he offers his services as a fake date to people in need. Meanwhile, his best friend, Celia (Laura Marano), is forced to stand by and watch as he makes a fool of himself with the apparent girl of his dreams, all while harboring feelings for him.
Things get complicated fast, as they are wont to do in teen rom-coms, but The Perfect Date is a fun watch with a satisfying ending. It's based on the 2017 novel The Stand-In by Steve Bloom.
Alice Wu's The Half of It is a very loose, modern retelling of Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac, wherein Ellie Chu (Leah Lewis) writes love letters for Aster Flores (Alexxis Lemire) on behalf of Paul Munsky (Daniel Diemer). Much like the original play, Ellie realizes she also has feelings for Aster, which complicates things in more ways than one.
The Half of It is more of a coming-of-age teen dramedy than a strict rom-com, but it shares enough themes with the genre to be included here. Plus, the relationship dynamics are fascinating and the storytelling is on-point. It even received the Founders Award for Best Narrative Fiction at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival.
Love, Simon is a 2018 rom-com based on Becky Albertalli's Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. The film follows Simon Spier (Nick Robinson), a closeted gay teen who begins communicating with another gay teen at his high school, known only by the pseudonym "Blue." Things quickly get complicated when their emails are discovered by another student, who blackmails Simon by threatening to out him unless Simon helps him win over one of Simon's best friends, Abby.
Love, Simon is a teen romantic comedy and a coming of age story with high stakes and great emotional arcs. Last year, a spin-off series called Love, Victor debuted on Hulu.
The Princess Diaries is a long-time favorite for Anne Hathaway and Dame Julie Andrews, who play Mia Thermopolis and Queen Clarisse Renaldi, respectively. Mia is an average -- if awkward -- high school student with a major crush on the most popular guy in school. Then her paternal grandmother comes to visit and Mia learns she's actually a princess, and next in line for the throne of a small (fictional) European country called Genovia.
As Mia learns the ins and outs of being a princess, she also learns how to be a better friend, communicate with her loved ones, set boundaries and make mistakes without being devastated by them. Many cite The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement as the better film, but the first one lays the groundwork (and has a sweet high school romance, to boot).
Love & Basketball is a romantic sports drama about next-door neighbors Quincy (Omar Epps) and Monica (Sanaa Lathan), who fall in love as they pursue their respective basketball careers -- which consequently means they keep breaking up, then getting back together again.
The movie spans several years, which gives insight to the characters' growth as individuals, athletes and as a couple. It also deals with heavier subjects than most of the other movies on this list, but it's a must-see for its incredible performances and beautiful script.
Ryan Murphy's Netflix musical comedy, The Prom, is based on the stage musical of the same name with music by Matthew Sklar, lyrics by Chad Beguelin and a book by Bob Martin and Beguelin, based on an original concept by Jack Viertel. The film chronicles end of the year chaos surrounding a conservative high school's attempts to prevent a lesbian student from bringing another girl to prom, which is aggravated when a group of narcissistic Broadway stars catch wind of the story on Twitter and decide to help, in order to improve their image as performers.
The Prom boasts a stellar soundtrack and an incredible cast, and its story seems to be at least partially inspired by real events. It's the only musical on this list, but it's a wild romp with plenty of evocative moments that's worth checking out, even for those who don't necessarily love musicals.
Although 2019's Booksmart isn't necessarily a romantic comedy, it follows a similar formula as it follows studious best friends Molly (Beanie Feldstein) and Amy (Kaitlyn Dever), who attempt to go to the biggest party in town the night before their high school graduation. It's a hijinks-filled comedy with plenty of crushes, hook-ups and romances, but the relationship between Molly and Amy is the whole crux of the film.
To All the Boys fans who love the relationship between Lara Jean and Christine (Madeleine Arthur), in particular, will love the tone of Booksmart and its smart approach to teen comedy.
