7 Small Changes That Will Make An Enormous Difference To Your Upvc Replacement Door Handles

UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes the handles on your doors will wear down and require replacement. It is crucial to be able to match the dimensions of the old handles when replacing them.

The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw position, lever and key hole sizes. Check the size guide for help with this.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever door handle is a modern handle that can be put in on replacement or new doors. This kind of handle is available in many designs and finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The uPVC/Composite door handles are constructed of durable materials and are suitable for doors with multi-point locks that require a strong design. The handles are inline and they utilize the same spindle and screws to secure them. They are easily fitted on a new or existing uPVC/Composite doors.

The handle can be placed and angled to fit the needs of all users. The handle has been endurance tested to 200,000 cycles, this helps to ensure the quality of the finish and the performance of the handle over time. The sprung lever is adjustable to accommodate a wide range of locks. This is particularly useful for narrower doors where the cylinder is further away from the door. A shorter lever is an ideal choice for doors where the latch can be opened by a thumb turn inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is different from the lever handles found on most doors. These handles can work off one single spindle (inline) or independently from each side using two inline or offset spindles (pad). They are generally employed on UPVC double glazed doors and are available in a variety of variations and finishes.

The handles have been tested to the minimum of 200k cycles and are available in various finishes including White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish meets BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, which gives the handle a high level of durability and performance for its intended use.

All UPVC levers for handles come with a spindle, screws and can be installed on the uPVC door. The backplate fixation centers of 211mm permit a larger handle, which is often a benefit when replacing an old or faulty multi-point door lock mechanism. These handle levers have a spring, which solves the issue of door handles that move out of the horizontal position when not being used.

When choosing a replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ on both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is often called the 'handle centre' or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect to match the right handles.

Once you have the correct PZ size, you'll have to ensure that the lever pads and push pads are of a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compatible handles you require for your doors. They are usually rectangular or round in shape, with an internal lever and external push pad.

The majority of UPVC lever pads that we sell are sprung, meaning that they will return to their horizontal position after not being used, instead of hanging out and possibly sticking in the frame. This helps prevent the draughts and cold air from entering a home. The majority of UPVC lever pad handles come in both left and right handed models that allow them to be installed on either side of doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. They work by using a key to unlock a cylinder case that is then revealed with pins that can be aligned with the pins in the lock body and permitting them to turn the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders are available with up to six pins. Doors that are internal and external require different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder is essential. It depends on the use that your doors and handles receive. External doors, for instance, should be fitted with cylinders that are more secure while internal doors can be secured with a standard cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders come with additional features that increase security further, such as anti-drill and anti-bump characteristics.

A euro cylinder must be properly measured to ensure that it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder must be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, should there be one. It is best to do this with the lock in place, but when this isn't feasible, you can take it off and take it off to measure. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon may be vulnerable to attacks, such as lock snapping, so it is crucial that it is not too long.

The design of many modern cylinders comes with anti-drilling as well as bump resistance features. They are designed to minimize attack chances by forcing the cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This will help deflect the attack, and keep your door safe.

There are cylinders that have been constructed to withstand snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the break line of the lock and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. upvc door handles is a faster and easier way to gain access than through a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the break-in which could delay insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is positioned in the base of your door handle backplate providing a sprung solution that returns the multipoint lock handles back to their normal position after use. In the past, a lot of handles of this kind did not have a spring built into them, and without it they tend to droop or drop when the locking mechanism is disengaged. This simple feature is one of the best methods to correct this issue and is an effective way to keep your upvc doors from getting stuck in either closed or open position, since they aren't always easy to close manually.

The spring cassettes were made to be used with a spring multipoint lock. They won't work with handles that aren't sprung, and you will have to cut a hole in your backplate in order for them to fit. (Please see the image for a more detailed diagram). These cassettes can be used as a replacement to broken or missing cassettes that are in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are supplied in a single unit. They come with a square cut out that accommodates an 8mm shaft.

These spring cassettes offer an excellent value solution to the issue of sagging door handles. They are simple to install and will prolong the lifespan of your uPVC doors.
