7 Small Changes That Will Make A Big Difference With Your Upvc Replacement Door Handles

UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes, the handles on your doors will wear out and need to be changed. In this case, it is important that the new handles conform to the exact dimensions of the previous handle.

The top screw's position, the lever and the keyhole sizes are the three measurements that you need to determine. Check the size guide for assistance with this.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever handle or lever is a contemporary door handle designed to work with new or replacement doors. This type door handle is available in a wide range of styles & finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this handle including Avocet, ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The door handles made of uPVC/Composite are made of robust materials and are suitable for multi-point lock doors that require a strong design. The handles are inline and work off the same spindle and screw fixings so they can be easily incorporated into existing or new uPVC/Composite doors.

The design of the sprung lever allows the handle to be placed and angled to ensure a comfortable experience and is suitable for all users. The handle has been endurance tested to 200,000 cycles, this helps to ensure the quality of the finish and the performance of the handle over time. The sprung lever is adjustable to fit a wide range of locks. This is useful for doors with narrower openings where the cylinder is further away from the door. A shorter lever is an excellent option for doors where the latch could be activated by the thumb turn on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc functions differently to the lever type handles found on most doors. The handle can operate from a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side using two inline or offset spindles (pad). They are typically employed on UPVC doors with double glazing. They come in a variety of finishes and variations.

The handles have been tested to the minimum of 200 000 cycles and are available in various finishes, including White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to corrosion. find more provides the handle with a high performance and durability to serve the purpose it was designed for.

All of the UPVC lever pad styles for handles come with the spindle and screws which allow them to be installed on an existing or new uPVC door. The backplate fixing centers of 211mm permit a bigger size of handle which can often be a benefit when replacing a faulty or worn multi point door lock mechanism. These levers for handles are also spring-loaded, thereby solving the issue of handles hanging out of the horizontal position when not in use.

It is important to match the dimensions of the PZ for both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when choosing the replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is also called the handle centre or 'cylinder centres and is an essential aspect in ensuring that you have the appropriate handles.

After you have determined the correct PZ size, you will need to ensure that the lever and push pads are designed to fit the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. They typically have a square or round design with an internal lever and an external push pad.

Most of the UPVC lever pads we sell are sprung, meaning that they return to their horizontal position after not being used, instead of hanging out and possibly sticking in the frame. This prevents draughts from entering the property. Also, the majority of UPVC handle lever pad style handles are hand-operated which allows you to place them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are commonly used on uPVC doors, but they can also be found on other types of doors. They work with a key to unlock a cylinder case that will reveal pins that can be aligned with the pins in the lock body, permitting them to turn the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be equipped with up to six pins with both internal and external doors generally needing different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder is vital. It is based on the amount of use your doors and handles receive. For instance, exterior doors require a more secure cylinder while doors inside can be secured with the standard cylinder. In addition, some cylinders have extra features that increase security, for instance anti-drill or anti-bump properties.

To make sure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it must be measured accurately. The cylinder should be measured from the hole for fixing screws in the middle to each end of the cylinder and the thumb turn if you have one. It is best to do this while the lock is in place however in the event that this is not possible, you can remove it to measure. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon might be vulnerable to attacks, such as snapping locks, so it is crucial to make sure it's not too long.

Most newer cylinders have been constructed with anti-drill and bump resistance features included in their design. These are designed to reduce the risk of attack by forcing the cylinder to rotate in an opposite direction. This helps deflect the attack and ensure your doors are secure.

There are cylinders constructed to withstand snapping. This is a growing kind of attack on cylinders where the break line in the lock is smashed with a special tool to break off the front of the cylinder and allow the door to be opened. This is a quicker and simpler method to gain access than using a multipoint locking system. It also leaves no evidence of the break-in which can delay insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is positioned inside the base of your door handle's backplate providing a sprung solution to return your multipoint lock handles to their original position after using. Previously a lot of handles of this kind did not have a spring integrated into them, and as a result, they can droop or 'drop' once the locking mechanism is disengaged. The addition of this simple element is among the best methods to correct this, and is an effective way to keep your doors made of upvc from becoming stuck in either closed or open position, since they aren't always simple to close manually.

These spring cassettes were designed to be used with a spring multipoint lock. They will not fit unsprung handles and you'll have to cut a hole into the backplate to allow them to fit. (Please see the image for a more detailed diagram). They are a replacement for broken or missing cassettes in the backplates of door handles of many kinds of uPVC doors. They are available as one unit. They have a square-cut out that is able to accommodate an 8mm shaft.

These spring cassettes offer an excellent value solution to the problem of sagging door handles. They are simple to put in and will prolong the lifespan of your uPVC doors.
