6th Flotilla Inaugural Seamanship Day

Introduction:

6th Flotilla seamanship day was introduced to be a platform to share good practices, safe practices and knowledge sharing.


Objective:

To enhance and strengthen the skills, knowledge, and camaraderie within the seamanship community through a collaborative and interactive event for all 6th Flotilla seamen.


Aim:

To promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and skill development within the seamanship community, ultimately enhancing safety, efficiency, and professionalism in maritime operations.


Conduct:

The event will be conducted at Tuas Naval Base multi-purpose hall on 3rd July 2023 from 1000hrs to 1200hrs. There are four segments to this event.

a. Experiential learning - Personal Protective Equipment

b. Seamanship quiz

c. Rope work - Berthing (Slowing down ship’s momentum using ropes)

d. Heaving line challenge


Attire and Items:

The rig of the day is smart 4. All participants are to bring their smart phones to participate in the seamanship quiz. Each ship are to nominate two seaman to represent their ship in the heaving line challenge, one as the thrower and the other as assistance. Each team is to bring their own heaving line (in bucket) and PPE for the activity.


Conclusion:

Through this event, participants will gain new insight and take away new knowledge to help them perform better as a seaman.
