In 2006, I was part of a modeling shoot for the now-defunct MORE magazine, the first magazine geared for the over-40 woman. I had done some modeling in the past, and it was exciting to be in front of the camera again as I was getting closer to 50…
Does anything say “summer” quite like wearing white? It has several traits in common with its absolute opposite on the color spectrum, black: it’s chic, it’s easy to accessorize, it can be worn as a monochromatic outfit, and it always looks great!
It may be true that you don’t need to know how to do your shopping online to be happy. And it’s safe to say that brick and mortar stores won’t all have disappeared in our lifetime. But as an older woman who…
I have always loved jumpsuits, and I am still wearing them well into my 50s. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t wear certain items of clothing after a certain age. Jumpsuits are great one-piece items that are both versatile and fun to wear. Some jumpsuits are everyday casual and others, made of chiffon […]
I was 14 when my parents and I sat in my pediatrician’s office and heard the news: I had scoliosis, an abnormal curvature of the spine, most often diagnosed in teenaged girls. Called idiopathic, this type of scoliosis has unknown origins…
I never met a holiday menu I didn’t embrace. Like so many of us I was “dieting” (here and there) some of the year, but when a holiday rolled around, out the window the diet went. Problem is, we celebrate something every month…
As someone who has studied the brain for over 20 years, I’m happy to give you the most straightforward answer I can to the question, “Can tinnitus be cured?” The answer is a resounding… MAYBE! I know you want to hear me say yes! But what if I told you…
Do you have some days when you feel hungry all day, no matter what you eat? That might be because you didn’t get enough sleep the night before. What does the amount of sleep have to do with your weight?
For the past 25+ years, I have coached clients on dating – in the old days (90s and early 2000s) with matchmaking and in the 2010s and 2020s with online dating. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that there are over 100 million singles in the US alone…
Do you see yourself with a toy-boy, or maybe you prefer a father figure image? What is the truth about age difference in relationships? Does it really matter, and how could it affect you? Let’s explore the issues.

Ever heard of the 5-Day Momentum Rule? It’s a very powerful concept. As a dating coach/counselor with over 25 years of dating experience, I know this for a fact! This rule has gained even more importance in the past five years as our attention…
Being scammed is one of the scariest concerns you might have about dating at this time in your life. What makes it feel even scarier are the TV shows like The Tinder Swindler that recently aired on Netflix. This show depicted real-life incidents of how smart…

How does the idea of a road trip or a vacation sound to you right now? Pretty good, I would venture to guess. In every vacation, we take two pleasure trips. One is the trip itself. The other is the anticipation of the experience – the planning…

There was a time when I felt sure that I would continue working until age 70 or beyond. In fact, I often joked that one day I would simply resign from my job at the nursing home where I worked as an RN and move myself into the assisted living…
I am not the only person I know in my 60s who had a bad work experience at the end of their career. One friend was in his hospital bed after cancer surgery when his boss told him he was being forced to retire. Another friend worked…
Summer kisses come one at a time. First, the warm breezes that puff around my shoulders and warm my heart. Next is the sweetest fragrance of wild honeysuckle that hides in the hedgerows. Then come the buzzing of bees as they search…
We all have a mental “bucket list” that includes all those things we want to do, places we want to visit, people we want to meet before we die. The fact that these items are on our “bucket list” indicates they mean something to us…
Lately, with all the extra time and space provided by social distancing, it’s a good thing if you’ve been ruminating over questions like: What’s my plan for the next couple decades?

Cover Gallery: 1950s and 60s Men's Mags

NOTE: This photoset is likely NOT SAFE FOR WORK, though it's awfully darn tame by today's standards... I suppose it's really my own problem, but on the rare occasion that I see them these days, contemporary 'men's' magazines do nothing for me. I suspect that part of the problem is that just like most of the print media of our modern era, the design, layout and color of the graphics just looks sort of flat to me. Too slick or something. The women too, I guess. Not so with this batch. The colors are KRAZY, the typography speaks to me, the cover copy is so lurid and pre-P.C. and silly, the titles are great, and - - oh yeah - - there's also the girls. A good portion of these mags bear a cover date of 1967 or '68. I found all but a few sometime in the early '80's in one trip to a funky used book store, all in a big pile in a corner, looking like they might have come from one collection. If these magazines could talk, well - - no, I guess maybe I wouldn't really want to hear that story... Enjoy 'thumbing' through the stack!
