Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and a growing global demand.

Our service offers private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of a single prescription.

Titration

A thorough assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted with a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This will include a medical history and an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your examination You will be advised that medication may be beneficial for your particular situation. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which can take place in person, via video link, or over the phone). Your clinician will discuss the different options for medication available. If you decide to start taking medication, we can help you to titrate your dose to ensure the best balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process may take several weeks, and requires gradually altering your child's medication until the proper balance is achieved. It's not uncommon to need to adjust three or four medications before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is essential that parents participate in the titration process and keep an eye out for their child's behavior so that they can let the doctors know whether the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with a prescription from a private pharmacy that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You'll be required to attend regular appointments every six months to monitor your medication, which includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is complete after the assessment is completed, you can make follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. Typically, the appointment will take place through a video call using zoom but in certain circumstances it might be possible to schedule an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).

In this session, we'll discuss any treatment options we have and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration program. This will include a review of your medication dosage and an examination of any adverse effects you may be experiencing. The cost of these titration appointments is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for online or telephone video consultations. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

adhd dose adjustment will ask you questions about your family history, the effects of your ADHD symptoms on your life, and any mental health issues you may be experiencing. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, so it's important to look into your family's background to determine if you are at a greater chance of developing this disorder.

It is crucial that you are honest and transparent with your doctor during this assessment, as the information they receive will be used to determine whether your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. This is an important step, since the wrong diagnosis can result in an inappropriate prescription of medication.

If you decide to seek treatment for ADHD We'll set up a follow-up appointment with a psychiatrist who specializes in this area. This can be scheduled within the first few days of your diagnosis if you are eager to begin treatment immediately, or within two weeks if you prefer to take time to consider the implications of your diagnosis and the options that are available to you.

If you aren't sure what you would prefer it is recommended that you talk with your GP prior to booking your private examination as some providers have different policies about whether they require a GP referral letter or not. Find out if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means that you will be referred to them after you leave the clinic to get a prescription medication.

Medication

For many people who seek an individual diagnosis of ADHD treatment is a key element of their treatment. Finding prescriptions from an NHS psychiatrist can be a hassle and time-consuming. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Requesting your GP to refer you to Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry - UK and ADHD 360). You can pick a provider who offers a private assessment service and the titration. This can cut down on wait time significantly and is more convenient when you are working and have a busy schedule.

If you are recommended, your physician will evaluate you to determine if you need medication adjustment. You'll have to fill out forms that are different for each provider however the most commonly used ones are self-reporting questionnaires and medical histories that go back to childhood and adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor to determine if there are reasons that suggest you shouldn't be taking ADHD medications, in the event that they've been prescribed.

If you are on a titration medication, this will usually include a mix of stimulants and non-stimulant medications. They will be carefully tested and monitored to determine the most effective combination for you, taking into account any existing conditions you have. The process of titration can be lengthy and may require some additional appointments before you are stable on your dose.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments is contingent on the type and quantity of medication you're taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. This will include your physician checking to see if you are on the right medication, logging any side effects you've experienced and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that you're on a dose that is safe. You'll also have to attend a routine health check which can include blood pressure readings, pulse and weight and an annual check-up.

For some individuals, it may be that they are satisfied with their medication and don't need an additional discussion regarding their titration. If you're required to discuss your titration plan or treatment plan further it is possible that you will be referred back to the private clinic who performed your initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration appointment will be included in their consultation fee and they will be given their medication on a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This can cost more than a prescription from the NHS since the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
