5 Lizard Care Tips

Having a pet lizard at home can be a unique and fulfilling experience for pet lovers. Lizards are distinctive animals with specific needs and functions, so knowing how to provide proper care is essential for their health and well-being. Here are seven tips for providing the best care for your pet lizard:

Tip #1: When choosing a pet lizard, start with a species that is easy to care for, such as the Australian bearded dragon or blue-tongue skinks. These reptiles are tame and can resist stress as long as they are properly handled. They eat various types of food, including vegetables, fruits, insects, and small mice.

Tip #2: If you have limited experience with lizards, it's best to avoid species that are challenging to keep, such as Nile monitors, iguanas, chameleons, and small species with lengths of 3-8 inches.

Tip #3: Before acquiring a pet lizard, research different species to find the one that best suits your needs. This will help you assess how easy or challenging it will be to care for that kind of lizard at home.

Tip #4: Keep in mind that owning a lizard at home is different from owning a snake, and the care they require is also different. Lizards prefer to eat every day, while snakes only need to be fed once a week or month. Keep their terrarium free from rotting or dirty food items to prevent contamination and keep them healthy.

Tip #5: Never hold or grab your pet lizard by its tail. Properly hold your lizard by putting one hand under the belly area to support its entire weight.
