Path of Exile Item Upgrades
The performance of many Path of Exile items can be improved by upgrading them. They can be a fantastic source of damage, more AD or even more attachments.
Rare-grade equipment is often superior to modernized Common or Magic gear because of their high requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They boost the stats of whatever item they are connected to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of games and are available from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged using an expert or higher salvage kit to retrieve upgrades from the items.
The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can take on. A piece of armor upgraded to maximum upgrade level will boost its ability to absorb damage. But, it's important to note that this will also increase its weight, causing it to be heavier than it was before.
There are many different kinds of armor upgrade available in the game. Each one has a distinct impact. For example, some upgrades give the armor a certain number of additional health points, while others will make it stronger and lighter. The type of armor upgrade that an item will receive will be indicated by the name of the upgrade as indicated in the table below.
Some upgrades also feature magic or a mix of technology and magic, which is shown by the "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Furthermore, some upgrades require charges to use, which are shown by an "Charges" entry in the table below. These charges are either updated daily or never expire depending on the upgrade.
The cheapest way to upgrade armor is by using Iron Ore, which can be found through exploring the surroundings and looting chests of minor loot. Titanium is more expensive, however, it is available from the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be used on armor pieces of the highest level. These upgrades can give significant boost to stats and are a worthwhile investment, particularly for one-handed weapons.
A piece of armor upgraded to max upgrade level will dramatically increase its defense values, but the player should be aware that increasing its weight will dramatically reduce its agility and speed. This is why it is typically not recommended to upgrade armor pieces above +9, since the defensive boost gained is usually not worth the weight and power costs of the upgrades needed.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades allow players to increase the effectiveness of certain aspects of the weapon. Upgrades can improve the accuracy of a rifle or the damage caused by shotgun shells. Some weapons also have special upgrades that enhance their inherent qualities. These include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and reduces the risk of overheating of the weapon) and Kinetic Coils (increases the velocity of projectiles for greater damage).
The majority of upgrades for weapons require a whetblade, one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. These can be obtained by completing Side Quests, killing a certain number of monsters or bosses, or through the Weapon Upgrade NPC located in Central Flarine.
Upgrading a Weapon, Equipment Set piece or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade price of a certain number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the more bars are required to complete it. If you have multiple upgrade materials The cost of upgrading will be lower.
In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. Previously, you could seek out an Upgrade Bench and pay a certain amount of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to an increased rarity. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level and at that point, the upgrades would be reset.
It's still possible, but it is dependent heavily on RNG. Instead, you're better off going to the stores and purchasing equipment that has low upgrade levels but excellent base scores and stat distributions. These will then have a better chance of bringing you the best tier of benefits and blessings.
To improve their skills faster, most players will prioritise upgrading their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons their teammates use to boost their strength. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to make it more useful when paired with biotech specialists such as Grunt and Tali.
Cases gg are placed in the armor's sockets and weapons, increasing a stat and providing secondary effects. They can be created through an process known as jewelry crafting, in which you combine a gem and various reagents at a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the gemstone, the better its secondary effect. These reagents can be obtained from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses in the world, or through salvaging Legendary Gear. The quality of a diamond can be improved at the Jeweler, with stages that vary from Crude to Royal. Based on the level of the jewel it can provide different stat boost when slotted into gear, weapons and jewelry.
All kinds of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a sufficient level to obtain these. Like other upgrade components jewels can be swapped out with a jewel of the same kind without destroying the original one. However, you can only replace a jewel in an item of equipment once.
It is common to use more jewels for aesthetic reasons. The jewels also improve performance and make a harder surface than steel so that repeated friction from pivots do not cause damage to them.
In addition to the upgrades mentioned above players can also obtain glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. These provide a small bonus and can be swapped out at any time but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs are upgradeable, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold, and also a Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out, which returns them to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits or aegis cannot be exchanged, and can only be recovered through an upgrade extractor or salvaging with the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage tool.
Trinkets
Trinkets can give your character a variety of small, but useful, benefits. They can be obtained in the beginning areas as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, and by doing road interactions. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.
The first trinket players can unlock is the cloak. It grants a small but valuable boost in movement speed and the ability to evade. The player can then collect rings, amulets and necklaces in a similar manner similar to how they obtained weapons and armor. Each piece of gear comes with one upgrade slot that can accept either a universal upgrade or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be used in any type of equipment, while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded and is only compatible with certain types of trinkets.
These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't engaged in combat. This allows a hero to be more efficient when they are not active. It can also compensate for the lack of a strong slots in the team or talent tree that are normally filled by the hero's best stats.
A good guideline for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you will not replace in the near future, then any items with desirable stats that are less important than the iLevel of the item to be upgraded. This is especially true when you want to upgrade multiple statistics on an item. It is better to upgrade one important stat rather than two suboptimal ones.
In the beginning of the game, players who are in the jungle will typically want to upgrade their yellow trinket into a red one in the middle and top players typically choose either a pink or green ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have a major impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.
In addition to the items mentioned above, players will find other trinkets that form of trophies and rewards throughout the game. They can be obtained by completing certain milestones in the story. For instance, finishing a chapter’s main quest or defeating an opponent. You can view them by selecting the achievement from the reward section of the hero's menu.
