Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to an item is a method to boost the stats of your armor and weapons. This can be achieved through a variety of methods such as using upgrade components or by increasing the rarity or mark level. In addition to this, many items can be reforged, which could increase their stats.
Upgradeable items are available all over the game, both in the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be created by players. Upgrade components are the main way to upgrade equipment. These are the items that can slot into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with slots that can be upgraded, and many require a certain level of upgrade. Some upgrade components provide specific bonuses, while others give an overall bonus.
There are many types of upgrade components available in the game. These include universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, such as gemstones and enchantments, can be placed in any equipment type and offer fewer bonuses than those that are type specific. Glyphs can only be placed in gathering tools, and provide numerous bonuses, from increasing the speed of an item's gathering to supplying additional crafting materials.
Choose the item from your inventory, and then open the Upgrade window. This will display a preview on the right side of the screen showing what the expected stats are after the upgrade, along with any required components or materials. If you don't have enough of either the upgrade button will say Blocked.
The amount of upgrade components required for a specific item is displayed in the upper-right corner of the window for upgrading. The cost of an upgrade increases depending on the level of the upgrade and its rarity, but it can be reduced by many different ways, such as purchasing upgrades from a retailer or trading them with other players.
Many weapons can be improved by adding a prefix, like a rune or an insignia. Some can be improved with the suffix. These upgrades alter the name of the item to add an adjective, for example 'Radiant' or 'Minor Vigor. There are some exceptions, however. the non-inscribable weapons, such as shields and foci from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, which cannot be upgraded with any mods.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to convey visual information. They move to grab the viewer's eye and spark curiosity. The animation of glyphs resembles body language, which makes them more effective in conveying a message across linguistic barriers. Glyphs can also enhance the retention of messages by creating an experience of familiarity in the brain.
Each glyph increases the value of a stat by specific amount. This is clearly displayed on the item when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This range is the maximum value that the glyph can improve a stat by and not the amount it actually increases the stat by. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the quality and tier of the product you are enchanting it to.
Most upgrade components inserted into items are not able to be replaced or salvaged without dismantling the equipment in question, unless it is legendary equipment and upgrades. However, if you have a rune or glyph that hasn't yet been added to your equipment, you can transfer it to a different piece gear by using the upgrade Glyphs context menu within the Glyphs panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.
You can take out a glyph by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item will be destroyed within which it is placed but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item using the glyph and its shards so this should not be considered a loss.
When you take away an item after adding a glyph the shards that are part of that glyph will disappear. You can also apply a glyph to your equipment to add a bonus. Deferred Damage, for example, can store damage and then be dealt out slowly to the wearer rather than all at once. This is beneficial for players who take a lot damage from their enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens permit players to alter the affixes on their equipment and weapons, and they can be obtained in a variety of ways, including in mistery boxes or as rare drops from skulled creatures, or from killing bosses. Each reroll token gives the player a brand new random affix that is usually better than the original one. Reroll tokens are also a great method to reroll the stats of a weapon, which can be upgraded to provide better damage or perks.
Rerolled items do not appear on the menu for upgrade options, however they can still be upgraded. By pressing the "upgrade button", you can recycle the rerolled items. This will alter the appearance of the window for the item and let up to six items to be chosen to recycle. Recycling an item can add a small amount of points to its gauge of level. The amount is determined by the item's rarity as well as its level, which means higher-level items are more valuable to recycle than lower level ones.
In addition to tokens for rerolls, players can make use of Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to reroll the Weapon Traits of an upgraded unit. Rerolls will roll a % chance for a weapon's trait. If it scores higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower the weapon is left as it was. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.
Rerolling is an excellent option to upgrade an item. However, players must be aware that the total ilvl is decreased by the number of the rerolls required to bring it to the final level. This lowering effect is most effective for Diadems and ring items, which have no other options for raising ilvls.
The Reroll system has been criticized by players as being too expensive, and it would be more reasonable to let players pay for it with money or food items which would allow players to modify their builds without a lot of time and effort. However, paid rerolls are not something that the developers would like to implement at this point in the game's development. They're planning to include a potion that will allow players to alter their race in the future.
Leveling
There are a variety of ways to upgrade an item. The first method of leveling up an item upgrade is by increasing the upgrade amount. This boosts the value of an upgrade for any stat. item upgrading is to increase the upgrade effect, which increases the damage or heal of a particular stat. Additionally there is the possibility to upgrade the base item to a more powerful upgrade type. When this is done the new item will retain its iLevel, but will have the upgrade effects of the upgraded item type.
When upgrading items, it is important to keep in mind that upgrades aren't always planned. In most cases the best roll will result from glyphs, however there are also possibilities for greater or special rolls. The item type will also determine the iLevel. If item upgrader upgrade a rare or exclusive item to a unique item type, it has a chance of receiving an additional level.
Upgrades can be costly Particularly if you're upgrading gear from the standard track to legendary. The cost of upgrading a piece of equipment will depend on the iLevel it's built upon as well as the amount of upgrade levels. Certain upgrade tracks require crests to be completed in order to move on to the next level.
If you're lucky the upgraded item will attain the highest level on its upgrade track, and thus unlock an additional benefit. This will provide the item with a significant upgrade value. The bonus effect will change with each upgrade level though. In general, the upgrade effect is increased by a value of +3.
Based on the item's base level and upgrade process, the iLevel for the upgraded item will change as well. For example an item upgraded from being a scarce or exclusive item to an extraordinary one is likely to gain the enhanced defense of the new base item.
