Lay out all the tools you'll need. Then, locate the battery's hatch and then open it with a flathead, a coin, or other similar tool. After that, carefully remove the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook on the key-ring. Make sure you wear rubber gloves to protect the clips or electronic contact surfaces.
After the battery is removed, insert the new battery into its socket. Make sure the positive side of the battery is facing up and that all clips are in place. Then, slide the cover back down and toward the key-ring loop until it is loose and slides off. Then, remove the cover and reveal the key blade, which is hidden inside. This will be used to unlock your car through the driver's door in the event that the key fob battery is dead or lost.

Note: Certain older Volvo models use another type of battery, the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 tenths of a millimeter less than a CR2032 battery, and you will need to be extra careful when placing the battery of your replacement.
