5 Laws Everyone Working In Best Robot Vacuums Should Know
Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos
The best method to keep your home tidy is to use a robotic vacuum. It will nab pet hair, dust and other surface debris before it causes a bigger problem.

1. iRobot s8
This smart robot vacuum and mop combo is a great choice for many homes. It vacuums and mops well and is extremely navigable using both GPS and laser sensors, and offers a broad range of controls and features accessible through the app. It comes with a useful feature that lets you create cleaning zones in areas that require more attention, and Keep Out zones in areas where you do not want it to go. It also receives software updates, similar to all Roomba products, that improve the quality of the product over time.
It's expensive but is also among the most sophisticated robot vacuums ZDNet has ever tested. It comes with a powerful battery that can sweep an entire home in less than two hours. It can switch between vacuuming and mopping by pressing a button. It will automatically empty the dust bin above its charging station, in contrast to other self-emptying robots that require you to empty the bin after each run.
It also has a number of other features, such as intelligent obstacle avoidance that uses cameras and processor-powered smarts to recognize obstacles. It is rarely derailed or stuck during a cleaning cycle. In my tests, it was the best at avoiding objects like power cables. However, it isn't as reliable at detecting pet waste and other dangers.
2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid
Eufy is owned by Anker It has become a household name in the world of low-cost robot vacuums. However, it didn't provide an option to mop. That changes with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive set of modern features and is able to compete against more expensive models.
The laser navigation system is the most important feature of this machine. The previous Eufy devices have created an outline of your home by using infrared sensors and bumping into things, but the X8's laser mapping technology is far more precise. It also takes a lot less time to create an accurate picture of your living space and also stores multiple maps, which is great for homes with multiple floors.
The X8 is still a good vacuum on floors with no dust that can carry debris under its side brushes and into the 400ml dust bin with ease. The X8's tyres, despite their circular shape, are efficient at grabbing corners and edges. It's not a great kitty litter eater, however our tests have shown it is able to remove around 90% of the fur from hard floors.
The mopping mode that is the basic one uses the same water reservoir as the vacuuming mode. While this is great for spills that aren't too big but you cannot regulate the amount of water it uses which can limit its effectiveness when dealing with more severe stains. It's effective of removing hair from pets. It has a higher rate of pick-up than the Roborock S7.
3. Miele RX2
Awarded for its quiet and efficient home appliances Miele's RX2 robot vacuum comes with outstanding cleaning power, beautiful design, and a great navigation. It has a few oddities in its operation that keep it from being ranked as the top smart robot vacuum.
Like the latest models from iRobot like the RX2 features dual-sensor mapping technology which uses the LIDAR sensor to map out the space and two 3D scanning cameras that can detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real-time. Once the room is mapped the app allows you to create virtual no-go zones as well as preferred areas that the robot will automatically clean. You can also manually change cleaning modes, start a manual clean or watch live feeds of the onboard cameras from the main screen.
The RX2's sensors are effective in registering furniture and other obstructions in real-time. The suction and sweeping capabilities are exceptional, taking away surface debris from carpets with medium pile and also removing embedded dust on floors. However, it's not exactly the most agile robot on the market. As with many others, it's not a good climber and has issues with things like metal threshold transition strips.
A lot of people purchase a robotic vacuum for the hands-off convenience of setting a schedule in an app and not thinking about it for weeks at one time. But it's important that a machine can get the job done that's the reason why our ZDNet staff examined and reviewed a few of the most popular ones to help you choose the best one for your home.
4. Shark ION

This budget-friendly robot is just like your typical robot but it's a step up in performance and features. Its smart mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your home, and uses them to navigate around obstacles and avoid them. It can even detect common obstacles like furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors, along with a bump sensor and an infrared drop sensor that keeps it from falling down steps, makes it one of the most flexible vacuums we've tried.
In our tests, it easily could climb over the thick shag rug and didn't end up stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigational skills were also impressive and its overall score on carpet and bare floors beat out the competition, and it was able to pick up 98.5 percent of the surface pet hair and litter from our lab test samples.
The controls are less basic than those of the competition's. There's a cleaning button at the top, and you can choose to start it by using the app or voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule weekly or daily cleanings, designate no-go zones and view its cleaning history. Clad in smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks stylish in your home. The dust bin on the rear is easily accessible to empty, and the removal of the filters is also simple.
5. Eufy 11S
Eufy 11S is an excellent choice if you want a vacuum cleaner that is easy to use and has no frills at a low cost. It's not equipped with some advanced features like Alexa integration and digital mapping, which are available in more expensive models. However, if you don't need these features, you could save money.
The robot is easy to set up and use. It doesn't require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does come with a remote control which lets you choose between different modes and adjust suction levels. It also allows you to manually take the robovac off on a scheduled cleaning.
During our tests, we discovered that the 11S was extremely effective at removing dirt and fur from carpets and floors with low pile. Its slim profile helped it reach under furniture and other low objects that larger robots could not reach. It was able to pass easily over thresholds of doorways and transition between floors of different types to another.
The 11S, like other robots, can also eat certain objects, like cords and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests that you can prevent this from happening by keeping these objects off the ground and using a cord organizer whenever possible. It also suggests cleaning the dustbin regularly, replacing the filters and washing or changing the brushes as needed.
6. iRobot Roomba 980
The Roomba 980 is the flagship robot vacuum. It's costly, but it's the best robot vacuum you can purchase. Its self-navigation and environmental mapping is a marvel to behold. It also comes with more advanced automation features than its competitors, such as the ability to set virtual boundary lines with its mobile app. Although the app isn't the most responsive, and the 980 does spin a bit when rolling over cables, it's a highly efficient robot vacuum.
One thing we love about the 980 is that it makes use of its iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors and visual simultaneous localisation and mapping technology (or vSLAM) to remember the floor plan of your home. It will then use the information to create an efficient and consistent cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient vacuum cleaner than the majority of high-end robots.
Other features of the 980 include two multi-surface rubber brushes which pick up dirt from carpets and hard floors, along with the spinning brush that sweeps debris into the bin of the robotic vacuum. Its floor tracking sensors aid it navigate around furniture and along edges, while Cliff Detect keeps the Roomba from falling down stairs. It also automatically returns to its base station for hassle-free recharges between sessions. Although the 980's battery lifespan and bin size aren't quite as good as those of some other robot vacuums, it's a sturdy and reliable machine that will keep your floors clean for hours on end.
