Lima, Peru’s capital city, has lots of awesome things to do and explore, so it’s no wonder that the city draws millions of visitors each year. From historical sites to spectacular vistas to delicious local cuisine, you’ll find plenty of reasons to make Lima your next travel destination. In this article, we list 5 awesome things to do in Lima, Peru! You will need to follow the easy way to book flights to New York and enjoy the holiday trip of New York in reality.

1) Visit Santo Domingo Market

Santo Domingo Market is one of many tourist destinations located near downtown Lima. It’s a great place to buy souvenirs or just walk around and observe local culture. Santo Domingo is also home to various fresh food stands where you can taste exotic fruits and sample typical Peruvian cuisine. Take a peek inside some small shops—many of which are filled with beautiful hand-crafted goods made by Peruvian artisans. And no trip to Santo Domingo would be complete without watching some traditional dancing on-stage.

2) See The Monastery of San Francisco

One of the most impressive works of religious architecture in all of South America, The Monastery of San Francisco houses some very interesting pieces including paintings and frescoes created by well-known Spanish artist Pedro de Mena. Aside from being an extraordinary piece of architecture and art, it is also one of few remaining examples of Franciscan presence in South America. For more than 500 years (1650 – 1950), thousands of Spanish monks lived at different times in San Francisco; today only two live there year-round. Fewer than 300 people live on grounds which were once home to about 3,000 monks.

3) Take a Bike Tour Around Miraflores

A bike tour around Miraflores can be a fun and adventurous way to explore everything that makes up one of Lima’s most visited neighborhoods. Bike tours will allow you to see more than you would during a walk and get some exercise while taking in some of Miraflores’ famous sights like Jorge Chavez International Airport or Parque de la Reserva. Or if you prefer no wind resistance at all then take a bus tour around Miraflores which may allow you to sit back and enjoy a sunset on Isla San Lorenzo for one of your stops. And don’t forget about one of our favorite spots; Larcomar.

4) Enjoy Some Street Food at Mercado Central

This expansive market is a must-visit for anyone who’s a fan of authentic cuisine. During your visit, you can sample everything from cheese and bread to ceviche and anticuchos (Peruvian skewers). Plus, you’ll also find local handicrafts for sale—many of which are on display at nearby Museo Larco. A visit here really is as close as you can get to living like a local! Don’t forget to fill up on fresh fruit before leaving: lime, grapes, guava, cherimoya (if you're feeling adventurous) all make great additions to an afternoon snack or dessert later that night. Make sure to try el burro (or its cousin el arroz con leche): a sweet treat consisting of rice pudding with sweetened condensed milk served inside fried dough (often with cinnamon and cocoa powder mixed in)! It's basically a portable dessert parfait . . . it's pretty much irresistible!

5) Have a Tropical Fruit Smoothie

With a reputation for great food and fun, you won’t regret having a Tropical Fruit Smoothie when you visit Lima. Located on a quaint cobblestone street in Miraflores, Aromas Café is just one of many popular cafés serving fresh smoothies. If fruit smoothies aren’t your thing or if you prefer something else with your lunch (or breakfast!), there are plenty of options available. Fish ceviche or chicken teriyaki anyone? In addition to amazing views and mouth-watering meals, Aromas Café also offers a terrace from which people can enjoy strolling by as they relax at their tables outside.
