The Memphis Zoo is a world leader in conservation science and is helping to connect people to wildlife. Saving plants and animals in their native habitat requires a careful understanding of their ecology and biology. Zoo scientists are coordinating field studies for endangered species that will make a difference between survival and extinction. While you are visiting the animals at the Zoo, you may not realize there is a whole team of researchers working hard behind the scenes to learn more about their physiology, nutrition, reproduction and behavioral activities. These studies have had a significant impact on breeding, welfare, management and reintroduction programs. Many of us want to make a difference for wildlife, but we aren't sure if one person can really change the world.
