Summer camps for 2021 are currently being planned for both in-person and online options. However, due to safety concerns surrounding COVID-19, NYFA will be unable to offer housing for in-person teen camps. Families will need to secure their own housing for campers and provide any necessary off-campus supervision, if traveling to a NYFA teen summer camp from another city, state or country. Do you dream of creating your own world populated by your own original characters? Do you wish to learn skills that you can apply to everything from filmmaking to game design?
The 3D Animation Summer Camps at the New York Film Academy provides campers with an intensive, hands-on environment in which they learn the essentials of 3D animation, and gain a basic understanding of visual effects (VFX), preparing them to pursue their dreams in animation and VFX.
Students in both the 3- and 4-Week 3D Animation Summer Camps work with state-of-the-art, industry standard 3D Maya software to build their models and apply basic animation techniques. Campers learn how to create original characters and environments, working through each step of a professional animation pipeline. Campers are also immersed in the fundamental skills of animation, including: drawing, painting, storyboarding, and sculpting.
NYFA’s faculty of professional animators and visual effects artists work with campers to help them to bring their most creative and original ideas to life, while also teaching campers a range of creative skills that can inspire them long after they leave.

With the opportunity to write, direct, animate, and edit their own 3D animated short films, the 3-Week 3D Animation Camp for teens provides a creative experience like no other. 3D animation dominates today’s animation industry, and the New York Film Academy’s hands-on intensive 3-Week 3D Animation Camp gives summer campers an excellent introduction to the tools they need to develop as animators. Campers get the opportunity to work with the industry-standard Maya software, as well as developing their craft through acting, directing, storyboarding, and screenwriting.
Student’s are not expected to enter the program with prior animation experience. However, 3D animation requires commitment and a background in studio art or experience with digital illustration is helpful.
Campers learn the fundamentals of animation (i.e. movement, timing, weight, character development, etc.) using Maya software, the Oscar-winning industry standard for professional animators. Campers work in a typical pipeline, progressing through basic modeling, rendering, and motion exercises to create their own animated short. In addition, they learn to develop their own ideas using classical storytelling methods, including screenwriting (for linear story), storyboarding (the relationship between story and action), and directing (the power of scene composition and camera POV).

Upon the successful completion of the camp, students will receive a New York Film Academy certificate and a copy of their work.
