Look at this clit/Isn’t it neat?/Wouldn’t you say this genitalia’s complete?
Now that you have those lyrics to the tune of “Part of Your World” from the Little Mermaid stuck in your head, seriously, look at this 3D-printed clitoris. Because if you thought the clitoris was just the little nub of skin you’ve never been able to find, think again.
The model is currently being exhibited at Fab Lab at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris, and creator Odile Fillod wants it to be distributed around schools in France to improve sex ed. Which sounds a lot cooler than trying to put a condom on a zucchini in front of a bunch of other 12-year-olds.
After multiple attempts to design a durable model, Fillod and her team were successful, and write , “The 3D-printed clitoris has already traveled a lot and is doing very well;)”
“The representations of sexuality are mostly centred on the male sexual organs,” Fillod told Vice . “Practices that do not include an erect penis are not seen as ‘real’ sex… Whether a woman is excited or not or whether she has an orgasm or not plays no role in fertilisation—which apparently means it can be royally ignored.” And as anyone with a clit can tell you, that leads to a lot of disappointing sex.
So, will the 3D clit make it into sex ed programs around the world, informing everyone that the clitoris is a large sex organ that works pretty similarly to a penis? Well, if you have a 3D printer, you can print your own here . Go ahead, educate yourself.

As part of this month of the woman, many achievements have been celebrated. We appreciate one of these realizations by talking about sex education today. The world of 3D congratulated Odile Fillod , sociologist of science and scientific popularization, who printed a 3D clitoris at an anatomical scale.
This creation mainly aims at ensuring a proper anatomical sex education. The choice of this organ lies in the fact that for the researcher, one needs to “ acquire a base of accurate and sufficiently complete knowledge on the anatomy and the functioning of the genitals, as well as on sexuality in general. ” It goes without saying that this aim is part of the missions assigned to schools.
In addition, there are different stakes in the knowledge of the clitoris and its membranes.
The first one is to make people realize that the penis and the clitoris are similar, even in their functioning. In simple words, the woman’s excitement also results in an erection but they will have some difficulties to get an erection if their clitoris is not stimulated. Odille F. thus shows that female pleasure is neither mysterious, nor more cerebral than male pleasure.
Moreover, excision does not appear at all as a female circumcision, it is rather a dangerous genital mutilation. It would consist of “ cutting / removing the glans of a man’s penis. ”
Finally, women must appropriate their body, understand it, know what gives them pleasure and why.
Big up to 3D which is used as a tool by lecturers and therapists to spread education. It is simpler to understand an organ’s functioning by manipulating it in 3D rather than simply looking at the 2D drawings.
In addition, thanks to 3D, it is possible to better understand the size of the organ and the technical and fun aspect makes it possible to tackle the subject without too many taboos.
Following a report on sexist biases in school books and the platform’s creation for pedagogical videos on gender, the researcher created a model with the help of Fablab (from Cité des Sciences et de l’industrie ). Mélissa Richard, from the lab realized the conception on the basis of the diagrams that Odille Fillod gave:
In order to allow science and education professionals to freely print it in 3D, the design is shared under creative licenses commons .
