I was grateful for the disclaimer that this was a work of fiction about real people; even so, it's one of the saddest movies I've ever seen about a truly unhappy life. Ms. Montgomery was brilliant, and I'm glad that almost 20 years later she is still going strong. By definition, actors are usually different from the characters they play, and this movie demonstrates that very clearly. Even though the interactions in this movie were fictional, it is true that Norma Jeane Baker had a sad and troubled life personally and professionally, and died at only 36 worrying about being "over the hill"; Poppy Montgomery is in her late 40's , is a married Mom, and is still working and is still doing romantic glamorous roles. And yet 20 years ago she transformed herself into the painfully complex, abused, exploited, sad, and ultimately tragic personality that was Norma Jeane Baker. Brilliant work, Ms. Montgomery, absolutely brilliant. She should have won an Emmy for this work. I've heard that she is considered to be a "ray of sunshine" on every set she's on; I hope that's true, and I hope her personal life is as fulfilling for her as her professional life has been successful. Well done, Ms. Montgomery.

The novel "Blonde" was my first foray into the world of Marilyn Monroe, inspiring me to read any and everything about her. True, it's not 100 percent accurate (maybe not even 75 percent), but it's entertaining no less. The novel has a polarizing effect on Marilyn fans, and I'm sure the film will do the same. Although I loved Michelle Williams in "My Week With Marilyn," I think Poppy Montgomery looks and sounds much more like Marilyn. This will sound silly, but the reason I held off ordering this DVD is because Montgomery doesn't look even remotely like Monroe on the cover. Yeah, yeah. I know. I'm glad I got over it, though. There are times in the film when the resemblance is absolutely incredible. Therein lies the problem. Montgomery is perfectly cast, which makes the miscast characters so much more unsettling. It's not that the men portraying DiMaggio and Arthur Miller aren't good actors. The problem is that they look absolutely NOTHING like the real men--two men whose faces are very well known. So if you're the type who knows all about Marilyn and the famous faces in her relationships, their scenes together just seem...off. As closely as Montgomery resembles Marilyn, you would expect that the supporting cast in a movie about her life (albeit a fictional one) would be at least half as spot-on. Instead, it's like watching the real Marilyn Monroe play to totally random people. It's a major distraction in a movie that would otherwise receive a five-star rating.

I think that Poppy Montgomery did a fantastic job portraying MM. I can't imagine it would be easy; she even got her walk down! It was a depressing ending and a different perspective which I enjoyed but I felt like some things did not flow well in the writing. However, still a good movie. Just sad that such a star that was so vivacious on camera had such a hard time off camera. I also thought the casting was perfect; (having read a few books about MM). The movie does a good job of looking into the personal moments of what should have been a private life.

let's face it..there are alot of "marilyn" films out there and most are just awful,with the exception that featured actress Hicks about ten[!] years ago.this is somewhat interesting and poppy montgomery certanly captured a sensitive portrait of monroe.there are times it's "HER"!but none o these films as well as this ever probe ino the horror of filming "the misfits",which certainly would have made the script more interesting.and the "hidden"storyline losely ivolving the kennedy brothers is silly. the gloss of her life is there and this actress is worth watcing but it's still the old tired tale just as the others.it's worth the price however seeing this actress compliment the sensitive insight into this woman's life.

Okay. For starters this isn't a documentary or a biography style film about Marilyn. Some of the characters were real people and some of the situations real, but for the most part it is a work of fiction. For instance they changed the name of her real life agent Johnny Hyde. They also never mention Joe DiMaggio or Arthur Miller by name at all. With all that being said, honestly, I thought it was a great story. Poppy Montgomery didn't do too bad of a job playing Marilyn. They got a lot of Marilyn's emotional hang ups right; her constant search for a father figure within her love life, her intense insecurity, and the fact that she never really felt the persona of Marilyn Monroe suited her. It just wasn't her.
