Just as the sun was setting in Chicago Monday night, two teenagers, 16 and 17, were walking in Uptown, blocks from Montrose Beach on the North Side, when they were shot during a drive-by shooting, according to Chicago police.
Forty minutes later, on the opposite end of the city, a 15-year-old sitting on a porch was shot.
By 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, another teenager, an 18-year-old, had been shot and earlier Monday another 15-year-old boy was in critical condition after being shot. A 17-year-old also was shot, once in each thigh, Monday afternoon.
The teens were some of the latest victims of gun violence during the long holiday weekend. From about 5 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Tuesday, at least 108 people were shot and injured, with 17 of those shot killed, according to Tribune data.

Police were called to the 4400 block of North Clarendon Avenue in Uptown to investigate a shooting at 8:28 p.m., authorities said in a police media notification. A girl, 16, and a boy, 17, were shot “possibly by an unknown individual inside of a passing black sedan,” police said.
The girl suffered a graze wound to the ankle and she was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said. The boy was shot three times — in the back, hip and leg — and he was taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital in critical condition and later transferred to Illinois Masonic, police said.
On the Far South Side, in the 700 block of East 132nd Street in Altgeld Gardens, police were called for a report that a 15-year-old boy had been shot while sitting on a porch, officials said.
The boy suffered a graze wound to the leg, police said, but there was no description of the shooter. He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where he had been listed in good condition, police said.
Earlier, another teenage boy, 15, was in critical condition after being shot around 5:50 p.m. Monday in the 6600 block of South Langley Avenue in West Woodlawn, police said.
He had been on the sidewalk when a dark-colored vehicle pulled up and someone inside shot him in the back. He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, according to police.
About an hour earlier in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, a 17-year-old boy was shot in each thigh as he walked down the sidewalk in the 3800 block of West Augusta Boulevard about 4:55 p.m. Monday.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, police said.
An 18-year-old also was shot in Chicago overnight, according to police.
The teen was walking in the 7300 block of South University Avenue on the South Side about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said. Someone inside “a passing black SUV fired shots,” police said, and the man was hit on his lower backside.
He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition, officials said.
