How to Do a Door Lock Change
Door lock change is a quick and cheap way to improve your home security. However, this procedure is not for everyone. It requires some expertise and perseverance.

The old lock can be removed

Replace the cylinder

Be sure to measure the length of the new cylinder prior to installing it. With a tape measure, determine the distance between the center of the cylinder and the left and right sides. Buy a new cylinder that has the same measurements. This will stop cylinders from snapping when doors are hit or the key is stuck inside.
Install the replacement cylinder into the door and then turn the key. This will ensure that the cylinder is aligned with the carrier, which is typically located on the outside of the lock. You can then loosen the set screws that should be a couple of turns in the head. You will also need to loosen the screw on the edge of the door which secures the case should there be one.
After taking the lock cylinder out, you can replace it with a new lock by sliding the new cylinder into the case and tightening the set screw.
