2026 FIFA World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, marketed as FIFA World Cup 26, will be the 23rd FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international men's soccer championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The tournament will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026. It will be jointly hosted by 16 cities in three North American countries; the main host country of matches is the United States, while Canada and Mexico will be the auxiliary hosts. The tournament will be the first to be hosted by three nations. This tournament will be the first to include 48 teams, expanded from 32. The United 2026 bid beat a rival bid by Morocco during a final vote at the 68th FIFA Congress in Moscow. It will be the first World Cup since 2002 to be hosted by more than one nation. With its past hosting of the 1970 and 1986 tournaments, Mexico will become the first country to host or co-host the men's World Cup three times. The United States last hosted the men's World Cup in 1994, whereas it will be Canada's first time hosting or co-hosting the men's tournament. The event will also return to its traditional northern summer schedule after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was held in November and December. Argentina is the defending champion, having won its third title in 2022.

The 2030 FIFA World Cup will be the 24th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA. Three countries will host the competition, representing, for the first time ever, two different continents, - with Morocco, Portugal, and Spain as host nations. Moreover, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the FIFA World Cup, representatives of yet another continent, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, will each host one game; the latter of which hosted the first World Cup in 1930. The first game, alongside a special centenary celebration, will be held in Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay. The second and third games will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Asunción, Paraguay, respectively. The rest of the games will be held in Morocco, Portugal, and Spain. This will be the first World Cup held in North Africa as well as anywhere in Africa since 2010; in South America since 2014, as well as in Europe since 2018. In terms of the countries, this will be the first World Cup held in Morocco, Portugal, and Paraguay; Uruguay since the inaugural tournament in 1930; Argentina since 1978; and Spain since 1982.

2026 FIFA World Cup bids

The 2026 FIFA World Cup bidding process resulted in the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) selecting the joint United States / Canada / Mexico bid as the location for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Two bids to host the event were submitted to FIFA, a joint bid by Canada, Mexico and the United States, and one by Morocco. On 13 June 2018, at the 68th FIFA Congress in Moscow, the joint bid was selected by 134 votes to Morocco's 65. This will be the first tournament hosted by more than two countries, and only the second hosted by more than one country—the other having been the 2002 tournament, hosted by South Korea and Japan. Upon this selection, each country made hosting records of their own. Canada becomes the fifth country to host both men's and women's World Cup—the latter having been in 2015; Mexico becomes the first country to host the men's World Cup three times—having done so previously in 1970 and 1986; and the United States becomes the first country to host both men's and women's World Cup twice—having hosted the 1994 men's and the 1999 and 2003 women's World Cups.

United States at the FIFA World Cup

The United States men's national soccer team (USMNT) have participated in eleven editions of the FIFA World Cup, an international soccer competition contested by men's national teams representing members of FIFA. The tournament is held every four years by the top qualifying teams from the continental confederations under FIFA. The United States is a member of CONCACAF, which governs the sport in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean, and has the second-most World Cup appearances from the confederation behind Mexico. The United States participated in the inaugural World Cup in 1930 and finished in the semifinals, which was later declared a third-place finish, their best result to date. The tournament also featured the first hat-trick scored at a World Cup, awarded to American striker Bert Patenaude following recognition by FIFA in 2006. After the 1950 World Cup, in which the United States upset England in group play 1–0, the U.S. was absent from the tournament until 1990. The United States participated in every World Cup from 1990 through 2014, but did not qualify in 2018, marking first time the team had missed a World Cup since 1986. They returned to the World Cup by qualifying for the 2022 edition.

2027 FIFA Women's World Cup

The 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup is scheduled to be the tenth edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup, the quadrennial international women's football championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The tournament will include 32 teams for the second time after FIFA announced the expansion of the tournament in July 2019. Spain are the defending champions, having won their first title in 2023. This will be the second and last edition of the tournament to be contested by 32 teams, with FIFA confirming an expansion to 48 teams for the next edition in 2031. On 17 May 2024, FIFA announced that Brazil won the hosting rights, making this the first FIFA Women's World Cup to be held in South America. Brazil will become the sixth country—after Sweden, the United States, Germany, France, and Canada—to host both the men's and women's World Cup, having hosted the former in 1950 and 2014. It is also the first country to host eight different FIFA competitions, having also hosted the 2016 Olympic football tournaments, the 2000 FIFA Club World Championship, the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup, the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup, and the first three editions of the FIFA-organized Beach Soccer World Cup (2005, 2006, and 2007).
