The Unified Silla Kingdom then emerged and the three kingdoms began to work together to expand their territories. In the end, Silla, with significant Chinese assistance, defeated the other states and unified the peninsula in 935 CE.

As Korea is entering the post-crisis phase the development paradigm of the country appears to be changing. People who are shocked by the enormous costs of the old systems are in favor of a comprehensive plan for liberalization of labor, capital and product markets. On the other hand, supporters of the old system seek to protect it by promoting nationalist sentiments and by stoking fears of job loss.

Analysts and academics are divided over the extent to which Korea's development is being driven by these two trends. This article examines the latest developments by analyzing five phases of Korea's political evolution that include democratic illiberalism (1945-60) democratic authoritarianism (1961-72) and authoritarian exceptionalism (1972-87) democratic paternalism (1987-2001) and participatory democracy (2002 to the present). This article also identifies important factors that appear to be shaping these processes.

Creationism in Korea

In South Korea, 26 percent of the population is Christian. The creationists have been successful in promoting their beliefs to this group. One example of a KACR success story took place at the KAIST university in Seoul. Students at KAIST in Seoul were so keen on the concept of creationism that they raised money and secured funding to build a small museum dedicated to creation on campus.

In addition to its public activities, KACR publishes a bimonthly news magazine, CREATION, which covers topics in creation science. It has also sponsored a series of talks by ICR staff. It has also established a network of local branches that conduct seminars and provide talks to school children and community groups.

Changes in South Korea

In the late 19th century and beginning of 20th, Korea moved toward a Westernised lifestyle. The hanbok, the traditional Korean dress, gave way to miniskirts and other style elements from abroad. In the same way, traditional Korean music styles were replaced by modern rock and roll and jazz. During this time the samulnori, or masked dance dramas, were popular with the general public. Korea's new development paradigm is being developed in the wake of the economic crisis. After his defeat, Gungye was replaced by an influential local leader, Wang Geon, who united Goryeo with Baekje and Silla in 935, Later Baekje was peacefully incorporated into Goryeo as an alternative state. Additionally, Wang Geon introduced fundamental reforms and strengthened a centralized ruling system. This marked the conclusion of the Three Kingdoms period. From that point, the Korean peninsula was ruled by the Goryeo Dynasty. In the Three Kingdoms Period, Goguryeo Baekje Silla slowly grew into powerful states on the peninsula, and in Manchuria.
