20 Trailblazers Are Leading The Way In Upvc Replacement Door Handles
UPVC Replacement Door Handles
The handles on your doors wear out over time and need to be replaced. It is essential to be able to match the dimensions of the old handles when replacing them.
The three measurements to check are the top screw's position, lever and key hole sizes. Use the size guide to assist you.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever door handle is a modern handle that can be put in on new or replacement doors. This type of handle is available in a variety of designs and finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The door handles of uPVC/Composite are constructed of durable materials and are suitable for doors with multi-point locks which require a robust design. The handles are inline and work from the same spindle and screw fixings. They can be easily fitted to existing or new uPVC/Composite doors.
The sprung lever design allows the handle to be set and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been endurance-tested to 200 000 cycles. This helps ensure that the finish is of high quality and performance will last for a long time. The sprung lever can also be shortened to fit a wider range of locks. This is particularly beneficial for narrower door frames where the cylinder is located further back. A shorter lever is a good choice for doors where the latch can be opened by a thumb turn located on the inside.

Lever Pad
The lever pad upvc handle is distinct from the lever handles that are commonly found on doors. The handle can work off one single spindle (inline) or independently from both sides using two inline or offset spindles (pad). They are usually employed on UPVC doors with double glazing. They come in a variety of finishes and variations.
The handles have been tested to at least 200,000 cycles and are available in various finishes, including White and Silver, as well as Chrome & Gold. The finish is in line with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, which gives the handle a high degree of durability and performance for the intended use.
All of the UPVC lever pad designs are supplied with a spindle and screws that allow them to be put on an existing or new uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixing centres allow for a wider size of handle which can often be a benefit in replacing a defective or worn multi-point door lock mechanism. These handle levers have springs, which can solve the problem of handles for doors that slide out of the horizontal position when they are not being used.
When selecting the replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ of the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC door. This measurement can also be referred to as 'handle centres or cylinder centres'. It is important to match the right handles.
After you have identified the correct size of PZ, you will need to make sure that the lever and push pads are shaped to match the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles that you need for your door. These are typically round or square with an internal lever, and an external push pad.
The majority of UPVC lever pads that we sell are sprung, meaning that they return to their horizontal position when they are not in use, rather than hanging out and potentially sticking in the frame. This stops draughts and cold air from entering a home. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles come in both left and right handed versions that allow them to be placed on either side of doors.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks are found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. They operate with a key to unlock a cylinder that will reveal pins that can be aligned with those in the lock body, permitting them to turn a revolving cam, thus opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins. Doors that are internal and external require different levels of security.
The choice of cylinder you choose is essential. It depends on the type of use your doors and handles will receive. External doors, for example, should be fitted with higher security cylinders and internal doors can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that increase security, like anti-drill or anti-bump properties.
A euro cylinder must be measured accurately to ensure it's the right size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn if there is one. If you cannot measure using the lock in its position, you can remove it. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon might be susceptible to attacks like snapping locks, therefore it is essential to make sure it's not too long.
The design of many modern cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. These are designed to reduce the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This will help to deflect an attack and keep your door safe.
There are cylinders that are made to resist snapping. This is an increasingly common method of attack on cylinders where the break line in the lock is targeted using a special tool to break the front of the cylinder to allow the door to be opened. This is a faster and simpler method to gain access than a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the break-in which can hinder insurance claims.
Spring Cassette
The spring cassette is located in the base of the door handle backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution and returning the multipoint lock handles back to their original position after usage. In the past, a lot of handles did not have a spring integrated into them, and without it they can droop or drop when the locking mechanism is removed. This simple feature is one of the best ways to correct this, and is an effective way to keep your doors made of upvc from becoming stuck in either closed or open position, as these are not always easy to close manually.
These spring cassettes are specially designed for use with sprung multipoint locks They will not work with multipoint handles that are not sprung and you will require a bespoke hole cut into the backplate to allow them to fit (please see image for technical diagram). They are a replacement for damaged or missing cassettes inside the door handle backplate of many brands of uPVC doors. They are available as one unit. They come with a square cut out that is able to accommodate an 8mm shaft.
These spring cassettes are a great value solution to the problem of sagging door handles. They are simple to install and will increase the life span of your uPVC doors. Contact us to learn more about our selection of uPVC accessories and spares. We are here to help and happy to offer expert advice.
