Keyless Entry
Certain older models and newer models have keyless entry. This feature lets you unlock your vehicle without the need to insert a key or tap the door handle. Some of the most advanced systems include remote keyless ignition (RKI) which can start your engine and activate ten other electronic devices.
These systems utilize radio waves that are emitted by your vehicle, and then picked up by the receiver on the key fob. The key fob sends the signal when you push the button on the handle or place your hands on it. The signal is match by the receiver in the vehicle.
The most modern keyless entry systems for cars are equipped with smart technology. This allows you to control these systems with the mobile app or cloud-based management system. This makes it easier to manage them if you need to give guests or maintenance staff access to your building or vehicles.
They are not free of faults. Some of the most serious negatives are related to security. If your key is lost inside the car while you are inside, it will no longer be able to send its signal, and you will not be able to lock or start the vehicle. Although several manufacturers have systems which warn you that the key is preparing to die however, they're not foolproof.
Transponder Keys
One of the most common types of car keys is transponder keys (also known as chip keys) that operate with microchips embedded in the plastic head of your car key. This microchip transmits an ultra-low level signal to the receiver in your car. This signal only matches the digital serial number programmed by the manufacturer. This is to stop unauthorized duplicate keys so that only you have the ability to start your car.
They are more difficult to duplicate and are less prone to being stolen. These keys are more expensive than flat metal ones, however they can save you lots of money if there is locksmiths who are able to program them for your vehicle.
These keys are not only secure, but they can easily be damaged by children. They should be kept in a safe location that is not within the reach of small children. Dropping or throwing them into the water could be hazardous. Some of them also require batteries, making them unsafe to keep around the house.
A professional locksmith will typically duplicate keys and reprogram them for you. They can do this for a fraction of the cost that you would pay at a dealership and they are also much more efficient.
Keys that fold Keys

Folding keys are another kind of key that can be used in certain cars. They're essentially a traditional key, but with the metal folding into the body of plastic to make it more compact and easy to store in your pocket or on your key chain. These are becoming increasingly popular, particularly because they are less likely to be damaged by water or heat. They are also more difficult to clone than other types of keys, making them a safer option.
They're not the simplest, but they will work for those who have lost their regular car keys. They're also cheaper to replace than a transponder key making them a good alternative for those who want to save money on their vehicle's security features.

Mechanical Keys
Modern cars no long use mechanical keys. Instead, they make use of an RFID chip embedded within the key to identify the key and connect with the car's computer system to start and run. The mechanical key will still unlock the doors and the fuel cap. However when it's not programmed to communicate with your vehicle it will not start.
The system utilizes LF (low frequency of 125 kmhz) transmitting antennas in and outside the vehicle, that communicate with the smart key. If the key is close enough to trigger one of these antennas it sends its ID back to the car using RF (radio frequency >300 MHz). The PASE module checks the key and turns off the immobilizer, allowing the vehicle to start.
A backup mechanical option is also available in the event that the battery on the smart key's smart key goes down or fails. To improve aesthetics, a number of manufacturers hide the mechanical blade behind a cover.
