Best answer: Overwatch 2 will have everything the first Overwatch game offers, on top of an exclusive player-versus-environment (PvE) content and story content.
Announced at Blizzcon 2019, Overwatch 2 is going to be a special version of Overwatch that contains an expansive PvE cooperative mode where four players can team up against various foes, such as the Null Sector faction. In PvE, players can also level up the heroes through gameplay, and you'll be able to unlock and use special abilities that modify how each hero plays.
The missions are said to contain plenty of story content, which will please fans who felt the first game was lacking in that regard. Overwatch's famed player-versus-player (PvP) will make a return as well, with Overwatch 2 introducing a new game mode called Push that tasks both teams with trying to push a robot payload to the other side's base. The robot will be neutral, meaning that both teams can control it.
Aside from gameplay, Overwatch 2 will also feature a complete overhaul both to Overwatch's engine as well as its visuals. if you weren't a fan of how cartoony the first game looked, you'll likely be a fan of these improved details. This overhaul will apply to both Overwatch and Overwatch 2, but the new PvE mode will be exclusive to Overwatch 2. Lastly, Blizzard has stated that there are plans to bring all of your earned cosmetics from the first Overwatch to the sequel, if you own any.
If you're worried that Blizzard is leaving you behind if you still play the first Overwatch, don't worry. While the PvE content will be exclusive to Overwatch 2, the visual overhaul and all PvP content β including any new heroes, maps, and the Push mode β will be available to all players of the original Overwatch. In addition, Overwatch players will be able to play with Overwatch 2 players in PvP. The two games may even share a client, though there is no clear confirmation of this yet.
There's no word on when Overwatch 2 is coming out, but hopefully Blizzard will provide more information soon. At the very least, we can be confident that it will be made available on PC, along with Xbox and PlayStation (whether it'll be on this generation or next isn't clear). Jeff just finished the What's Next panel with a few pieces of information regarding the differences between Overwatch 1 and Overwatch 2. I typed up a few key highlights that I'll share with you all. Items in quotes are direct quotes from Jeff (or as direct as possible :P). Overwatch 1 is referred to as Overwatch.
I'll be updating the post with more info!
Overwatch 2 does not use a new engine. It uses a "heavily upgraded" engine from Overwatch.
Custom hero abilities are in Overwatch 2, but exclusive to PvE. Torbjorn has a cool one where the turrets are flamethrowers.
All new maps, all new heroes, and all post-launch heroes from Overwatch 2 will be available in Overwatch.
Overwatch and Overwatch 2 will share PvP servers. If you buy Overwatch 2 you can play with Overwatch 1. PvE will be exclusive to Overwatch 2.
All skins and other cosmetics from Overwatch will transfer to Overwatch 2 (SR and Level not confirmed)
Multiple new heroes will be dropping with Overwatch 2 at launch. Jeff compared it to Overwatch's beta when multiple characters were added at once and the "chaos that ensued".
Overwatch 2 will be on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. Someone in the crowd shouted "What about for phones?" and Jeff laughed and said "I totally didn't hear what you said at all".
The game is still very early in development. Even the UI is a work in progress.
Jeff said "I have no idea" regarding when the game launches. "We don't have a date in mind". They're wanting to work with the community to figure out whats good about the game and what's not good. Jeff said "We're probably going to go dark after Blizzcon", but "there still some cool stuff coming".
There are still some cool updates coming to Overwatch 1, but there is not a new Archives event because they're focused on Overwatch 2. The event will still happen and there will still be new skins and cosmetics.
You can go to training room, custom games, and a new "waiting for queue" deathmatch mode in a future Overwatch update.

Truly the best highlight for me. Bit bummed to hear that there is no release date coupled with the fact that archives seems to not have any new storyline makes me think its going to be a summer release the earliest. Maybe same week as overwatchs first launch.

I'd just be happy if she lost the goofy shoulder tubes. It took me more than a year of using her Blackwatch skin (and I play Moira A LOT) to realize it was the same as her devil look. It's just that the tubes are so big and obnoxious that they completely change her silhouette and I was thrown off. Oh, and the beret. The presence of the hat threw me off. (Though I love the beret.) I feel the same about her scientist skin. In her sprays and such, her labcoat look is classy as hell. She's a total androgynous David Bowie legend. But then you throw the tubes on and she looks goofy again.

Push is confirmed game mode for qp, arcade and comp. And also every core game mode will get multiple new maps.

I assume it will be similar to wow/ow1 launch. Pc get exclusive bare bones 40 dollar version. 60 dollars console price with a bunch of loot boxes/skins. And 100 to 150 for collector edition with some figure or art book
