OVERVIEW OF 2-PLAYER TROEVEN

2-Player Troeven is a trick-taking card game meant for 2 players. The goal of 2-Player Troeven is to decrease your score to 0 first. You do this by winning rounds. To win a round you must score more points than your opponent.

There are two possible versions of this game that I will go over below.

SETUP

The first dealer is chosen at random and passes between players for each new round. To modify a 52-card deck all cards 6 and lower are removed from the game. This will leave you with a 32-card deck.

The dealer will shuffle the deck and have the player to their right cut the deck.

For version one, the dealer will deal both players 8 facedown cards in 2 lines of 4 cards each. Then the non-dealer gets 4 face-up cards dealt on his top row of facedown cards. Using these 4 cards this player must choose the trump suit. After the trump suit is chosen the dealer will continue to deal cards so that each player has 2 rows of facedown cards covered by 2 rows of 4 face-up cards.

For version 2 the dealer deals the non-dealer four cards. This player must then call the trump suit. After the trump suit is called the dealer deals so that each player has a hand of 8 cards each. The remaining cards form a stockpile to be drawn from in the game.

Card Rankings and Values

The ranking of cards is traditional. Ace (high), King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, and 7(low).

The cards also have values associated with them for scoring purposes. In the above order, they are valued at 4 points, 3 points, 2 points, and 1 point. This means there’s a possibility of 40 points for each round.

GAMEPLAY

For version one, the non-dealer will start the round and players will alternate. The starting player may play any card and other players may either follow suit or play a trump if they have a card of the suit led. If they do not have a card of the suit led, they may play any card to the trick, this includes trumps. Players may only play face-up cards from their layouts. Once a face-down card is uncovered it is turned face-up.

Tricks are won by the highest-ranked trump if applicable, if not then the highest-ranked card of the suit led wins the trick. The winner of a trick takes the cards and places them in a face-down pile for scoring later and will lead the next trick.

For version 2, the non-dealer starts the round. each player will play a single card to the trick, and as long as there is still a stockpile, neither player is forced to follow suit or trump.

The trick is won by the highest trump played or the highest-ranked card of the suit originally led. The winner of a trick leads the next.

After each trick is won, and as long as the 먹튀사이트 is not empty players will draw a card from it. First, the winner of the trick will draw, then the loser. Once the stock is empty gameplay changes slightly. Where following players must now follow suit or trump if able.

SCORING

Once all tricks have been won for the round scoring can start. Both versions are scored the same.

Each player starts with a score of 7. The player that scores the most points in the round decreases their score by one. If the dealer wins the round, the trump caller must add a point to their score.

If both teams score an equal number of points in the round, there is no change to either team’s score.

To play with traditional scoring a paper is halved by drawing one long vertical line. Each side will be assigned to a player. Each player starts with 7 horizontal lines (or branches) when a player wins more points in a round, they add a ball to one of their lines to cancel it out. If the trump caller loses, they add a branch to their side.

END OF GAME

The first player to reach a score of 0, or cancel out all of their branches, wins.
