Melissa King’s trial-by-Internet seems to be ending. Last week the media were all over the story of the former Miss Delaware Teen USA , said to be “disgraced” by the revelation of an adult video she allegedly made in 2012, shortly after her 18th birthday. A hard-core Web site reportedly paid her $1,500 .
King forfeited her title — and endured worldwide ogling, ridicule and moralizing. “[M]any wonder if the girl next door was someone else entirely behind closed doors,” ABC News intoned.
Yet no one has asked: Why is it even legal to cast an 18-year-old in a sexually explicit movie?
Eighteen is, for most purposes, the age of majority . You can vote, serve in the military and so on. When Congress set 18 as the minimum age for porn “actors” in 1984 and, four years later, required producers to document performers’ ages and identities, lawmakers’ goal was to fight child pornography — by defining it precisely.
Still, I would think that having sex with a stranger for money and on camera belongs on the short list of risky behaviors that one can’t legally engage in before age 21. That list includes: buying a handgun from a federally licensed dealer; gambling in most casinos; working as a stripper in a bar; and smoking pot in Colorado. Porn-acting’s first cousin, prostitution, is legal in 11 Nevada counties, but nine don’t license anyone under 21.
Heck, Carnival Cruise Lines won’t even let under-21s book a stateroom. (That’s a contractual limitation, not a law, but the courts apparently enforce it.)
And, of course, the drinking age is 21. In Delaware , Melissa King isn’t old enough to enter a liquor store.
Such rules reflect the sensible judgment that some choices can’t be fully entrusted to men and women still transitioning to adulthood. If you doubt this wisdom, consider King’s explanation for doing the film: “I thought it would be fun, and . . . I needed the money.”
When Congress set the porn-participation age at 18, three decades ago, it took a significant investment to make, distribute and store porn — mainly on paper, film or videotape.
This was before cellphone cameras, before social media, before Kim Kardashian. Nowadays, mistakes like King’s are much easier to make but much harder to erase.
To be sure, adult media enjoy some constitutional protection, as they should. Forcing 18-year-old would-be porn stars to grow up three more years might limit freedom of expression — for them and for those who make not only money but also some artistic or political point by exhibiting films of 18- to 21-year-olds engaged in sex acts.
But we’re talking about a justifiable regulation of speech, which the Supreme Court has upheld, not censorship. If Congress raised the porn-participation age, I doubt the courts would favor the marginal First Amendment interests on the other side.
The commercial porn industry attracts its share of free spirits but also exploits more than its share of damaged ones. Linda Lovelace, the unhappy subject of a new Hollywood biopic , began her journey to the set of “Deep Throat” in a troubled home.
News stories about King noted that she was in foster care between the ages of 12 and 18. Not spelled out was the fact that Delaware law prescribes foster care for children whose parents abused them sexually or physically, or neglected to provide them food, clothing and education.
We don’t know exactly why authorities separated King from her parents. (Her lawyer, J. Gregory Hannigan, declined to comment.) The fact that they were never reunited implies a pretty serious problem. Nor do we know whether King suffers from post-traumatic stress, as foster children do at a disproportionately high rate . It’s a fair guess, though, that she suffered a lot in the first two-thirds of her life — and that all the tiaras in the world could never compensate.
“Boxes of filled up journals from when I wrote everyday,” she mused on Twitter , “not once have I been able to open up and reopen those times nor let them go.”
If there’s a scandal here, it is not King’s conduct but that roughly 25,000 foster children, like her, turn 18 each year without being adopted. They “age out” of state care and fend for themselves.
Such youth face “higher risk for homelessness, unemployment, illness, incarceration, welfare dependency, and sexual and physical victimization than their peers,” according to a 2008 report by the National Association of Counties. The federal Foster Care Independence Act funds scholarships and services for foster care “alumni” ages 18 to 21. But their needs often remain unmet.
Strange, isn’t it? One federal law recognizes the immaturity and vulnerability of some 18- to 21-year-olds, but another — the law setting the porn age at 18 — does not. Congress should change that.

Vulgar snap only spotted after the school’s yearbook had been published
Proud parents at a high school graduation ceremony somehow missed copping an eyeful of far more than they could have expected to see after a girl flashed her naked crotch.
A photo of the student’s rude pose was branded “porn” by outraged relatives of pupils at Lake Norman High School in North Carolina.
One mother told ABC-affiliated television station WSOC-TV that she was disgusted by the then 18-year-old’s action.
“When it was brought to my attention from my child, I was appalled,” the unidentified parent said.
The vulgar snap was only spotted after the school’s yearbook had been published and families had handed over $100 for a copy.
The girl, seen exposing herself by lifting her graduation gown in the middle of a group, has not been identified by the school.
Dawn Creason, the district’s public information officer, told the news channel that the she believed the photo may have been an accident, suggesting the illusion of exposed genitals was created by the girl pushing her thighs together.
She is reported to have said: “We think it was the way she was sitting and the angle of her gown.
“We’re not convinced that you’re seeing what you think you are.”
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office have not said what criminal charges, if any, the girl could face if she is found in violation of any wrongdoing.

18 Year Old Virgin, while a low low budget throw away straight to Dvd movie, pleasantly surprised me. The main girl's quest for a bizarre loss of her virginity as a condition pursuant to beginning a more meaningful relationship with a specific proud, decent ( and later we learn Gay) gentleman proves to be outlandish, funny and raunchy to say the least. While some of the sex jokes are degrading though still no more than R rated, the movie's softcare feel is actually engaging in bringing out the film's vibrant if not occasionally warped humor. This is a movie I consider a good recommend. I am giving it 8 1/2 out of 10 stars!

This is supposed to be the 'unrated' version. I don't know how tame the rated version must be because in this film the exposure of breasts is all you're going to see... and for the main star that doesn't happen until 50mins into the movie. Olivia Alaina May is Katie Powers, who at the end of High School wishes to lose her virginity. With her her best friend Rose (Lauren Walsh) they attend an end of school senior's party where she hopes to make this wish come true. However to make things more complex she has always remembered a kiss she had as a young girl - which happened at Halloween so she has never known who her 'true love' really was. Olivia Alaina May is mainly known as a singer, and it shows here as her acting is dreadful. She moves throughout the house going from one attempt to another to have sex. She goes into a room where a guy wants her to whip him. Another room has two girls and a guy who ask her to join them. Another room has a guy into tantric sex, and so on. She just cannot seem to have sex! There's very little shocking, except where she attempts to trim her 'bush' which is clearly a wig. There's even less comedy. It's boring. It's like a 1970's British sex farce where someone goes from one titillating situation to another without any 'fulfillment' in any. That is, until the end - because this is an American film and it has to have a neat happy ending... her 'true love' is also at the party.

Basically a dumb movie featuring 20 something year old actors/actresses trying to look and act like high school students. Story line revolves around an end of the school year party featuring drugs, booze, and a girl who feels the only way to impress the guy she has a crush on is to be "experienced" (which she is not) and attempts to remedy that with whoever happens to be drunk and available at the moment. Will probably be considered a waste of time for anyone with an IQ higher than that of a 12 or 13 year old.

This movie is a laugh riot. It is so funny you will crap your pants laughing, especially when she encounters some odd characters while trying to lose her virginity in one night. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who loves to laugh. Some of the acting is a little hokey in some parts but the movie is so funny you hardly notice it.

Jan. 12, 2007— -- Sixteen-year-old Matthew Bandy was about as normal a teenager as you could find. He actually liked hanging out with his family.
"He was a happy-go-lucky kid," said his mother, Jeannie Bandy. "Very personable, and big-hearted. I sound like a boastful mom, but I guess the biggest thing is that he could always make me laugh."
"We went on vacations and had a lot of fun together," Matthew said. "I just enjoyed the life I was living. But after I was accused, everything changed."
What was Matthew Bandy accused of? Jeannie and Greg Bandy were shocked to discover that their son was charged with possession of child pornography.
One December morning two years ago, Matthew's life took a dramatic turn. In an exclusive interview with "20/20," the Bandy family reveals how the world as they knew it came crumbling down, and how Matthew's life has since changed.
It has been two years since police officers stood at the doorstep of the Bandy home with a search warrant bearing a devastating charge -- possession of child pornography.
"It was 6 a.m. It was still dark…there was this pounding at the door," Jeannie Bandy said. "I was petrified."
Police officers stormed into the house with guns pointed. "The first thing I thought was, someone's trying to break in our house," Matthew said. "And then there [were] police officers with guns pointed at me, telling me to get downstairs."
Greg Bandy was handed the search warrant and informed that the central suspect was Matthew. According to the warrant, nine images of young girls in suggestive poses were found on the Bandy family computer. Yahoo monitors chat rooms for suspicious content and reported that child porn was uploaded from the computer at the Bandys' home address.
"When they asked me have you ever looked up or uploaded or downloaded erotic images of minors, I was just taken aback and…I said, 'No,'" says Matthew.
Nevertheless, Matthew did have an embarrassing confession. He had been sneaking peaks at adult erotic photos on the family computer. "I got the Web site from a bunch of friends at school. [It was] just adult pornography…Playboy-like images."
Difficult to admit, but not illegal -- or so it seemed. Still, it didn't look good for Matt, as police confiscated the computer and left the house that December day. A family was shattered.
"I still remember when they were cleaning up and leaving and of course I was still in my pajamas and my bathrobe and my fuzzy slippers," Jeanni
