However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and operates while you are at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the rivals. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home using the app or voice commands. The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map.
