South Korea's democratic system is vulnerable to populist tendencies. However, it's healthier than what one might expect.

Origins

This new kingdom expanded its territory into the southwest of the peninsula, and was at war with Goguryeo and China's commanderies in the region. Baekje included elements of Confucian thinking into its state beliefs and made the male-centric filiopiety idea as a law in 1390 CE. Goryeo, a nation that was ruled from 918 to 1392 CE and gave the world the Hangul Alphabet based on the shapes that were created by the mouth when pronouncing. Evolution in Korea
The Korean peninsula has been continuously inhabited since Neolithic times. Early evidence for human settlements is evident in the form graves lined with stones, with precious items such as amazonite jewellery being buried with the dead. Megalithic structures, referred to as dolmens, made of huge single stones, are also widespread throughout the country.
In the first part of the 1st millennium BCE, Gojoseon established itself as the first recognizable political state. The peninsula was later ruled by a number of states during the Three Kingdoms Period (57 BC-635 CE), including Baekje and Goguryeo. The northern region of the peninsula was for a while occupied by the Balhae Kingdom, which historians do not believe to be a true Korean state.
After the Three Kingdoms, several smaller states arose in the Proto-Three Kingdoms period, or Several States Period (yeolgugsidae). Among them, Baekje was the most powerful state however, its dynasty ended by the fall of Goguryeo in 676 CE and left it with its southern territories of Manchuria and the western region surrounding the Hwanghae Bay, while eastern Buyeo and the Gaya confederacy thrived for some time.
The Unified Silla Kingdom then emerged and the three kingdoms started to cooperate to expand their territories. In the end, Silla, with significant Chinese assistance, defeated all other states and united the peninsula in 935 CE.
As Korea is entering a post-crisis period its development model appears to be changing. The people who are awed by the enormous costs of the old systems support a comprehensive program of liberalization of capital, labor and product markets. On the other hand those who support the old system are seeking to preserve it by leveraging nationalist sentiments and exaggerating fears about job losses.
Analysts and academics are divided over the extent to which Korea's growth is influenced by these two trends. Creationism in Korea
In South Korea, 26% of the population is Christian. Creationists have succeeded in promoting their views to this population. A survey in 2009 revealed that nearly a third of respondents did not believe in the theory of evolution. Of those, 41% claimed that there was insufficient scientific evidence to support evolution 39% claimed that the theory contradicted their religion and 17% said it was difficult to comprehend. The event's success resulted in the formation of the Korea Association of Creation Research on January 31st of 1980. The inauguration meeting was widely covered in national newspapers, such as The Korea Times and Chosun Ilbo and also received wide attention.
KACR began publishing a monthly newsletter, CREATION, which published its activities and published articles about the scientific evidence supporting creationism. It also translated several film strips and slides from ICR as well as a few books on creationism which were published outside of Korea. KACR members gave lectures in universities and churches across the country.
One instance of a KACR success story occurred at the KAIST university in Seoul. There, there were enough students interested in creationism that they raised the funds and support to construct a small museum on campus showing creationist models of fossils and other exhibits.
In addition to its activities, KACR has published a bimonthly publication called CREATION. The magazine covers subjects in the field of creation science. It also sponsored a series lectures by ICR staff. It has also established branches in local offices that host talks and seminars to children and other community groups.
The evolution of South Korea
In the late nineteenth century and into the early twentieth century, Korea began to adopt a more Westernized lifestyle. The hanbok, the traditional Korean dress, was replaced to miniskirts, as well as other fashion elements from abroad. The decline of Silla between the 8th and 9th centuries resulted in the rise of powerful local factions. Gungye was a nobleman from Later Baekje who established a kingdom in Songak with Songak as its capital. He was the ruler of a large portion of today's Jeolla province as well as Chungcheong. Later, he moved the capital to Wansanju and became a rival to Goguryeo.

The rule of his was, however, short-lived. Wang Geon, a powerful local leader who defeated Gungye in 935, and then united Goryeo, Baekje, and Silla, later incorporated Baekje into Goryeo without a fight as his successor. Wang Geon also introduced fundamental reforms, and strengthened the centralized ruling system. This marked the conclusion of the Three Kingdoms period. The Korean peninsula was then under the control of the Goryeo Dynasty. During the Three Kingdoms Period, Goguryeo Baekje Silla gradually grew into powerful states on the peninsula and in Manchuria.
