If your Volvo keyfob is only working intermittently, the battery may be dying and you will need to replace it in the near future.

You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries yourself by following a few steps. Choose a clean surface to work on. Set out all the tools you'll require. Find the battery hatch, and make sure it is set to "open." Make use of a flathead screwdriver, coin or any other similar tool to open the hatch off. Then, carefully remove the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook on the key-ring. Use rubber gloves to protect the clips and electronic contact surfaces.

After the battery has been removed, place the new battery into its socket. Make sure that the positive end of the battery is facing up, and that all clips are seated. Slide the cover downwards towards the key-ring portion until it is loose and falls off. Remove the cover to reveal the hidden mechanical key blade. Note: Some older Volvo models have an entirely different type of battery that is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 tenths of a millimeter less than a CR2032 battery, so you'll need to be careful with the placement of the replacement.
