How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor
In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, to trigger the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jumpy chain link in the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).
Testing is a bit challenging because there are two connector pins and they have different functions but the best method of testing it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is operational, it should be reading about 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this part, check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, I experienced an abrupt drop in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors are not firing any more. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was unclean. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine with no sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got zero Ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car can start when the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is connected but it still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even if it is not plugged in, shows a temperature of -49c. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.
I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've eliminated everything else. However, i'm afraid that I might have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both are used in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or from a parts store. Testing them is easy to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They should be infinite Ohms.

5. Tachometer

It's an essential component of the transmission in your Audi since it sends information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the car's engine is turning. If this sensor fails, it will cause problems for the transmission as well as the other car's components.
The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring.
